A&P II: The Summer '05 Anatomy & Physiology Club

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Decided to go ahead and create a new thread...

I am taking A & P II at Valencia Community College in Orlando FL. We start May 12th...

I am an Online ASN Student at Deaconess College of Nursing in St Louis. I have taken a leave of absense for the summer so I will only be focusing on A & P. Guess I am not really a pre-nursing student, hope no one minds.

I am looking forward to sharing experiences!

I'll be here till August 4th :)

We have a take home test due Monday (eye and ear), and lecture and lab exam on Wednesday over endocrine system, senses and skin. The take home test was rediculously easy lol :)

Boonersmom, you gave me a great tip to chart the endocrine. You were right about endocrine, it is a bit overwhelming to begin with but it is quite amazing. Now that I have learned it, I find it extremely interesting. I hope that shows on my exam :)

Good luck everyone!

Im starting A&P II on 6/27, exactly three days after I finish A&P I. Luckily, I have the same teacher for both and he is an excellent teacher. 10 weeks (total of both classes) of Anatomy and Physiology is quite enough. Cant wait until July 28 to be done and enjoy my 3 weeks of summer before fall semester starts

I just finished two brutal labs, ughh and two essay questions. I'm taking A&P II online and the labs are especially brutal since I don't have any instruction other than what I read in my Marieb book. I think I did okay, my teacher is a little picky though, so we'll see. I have a take home test due this week which I'm not looking forward to. I took A&P I online and it was a lot easier it seemed. In one it was more memorization and now it's learning and applying what we've learned. I don't finish until Sep 3, so I'm in for the long haul. Kinda makes me wish I'd taken the 5 week summer program :uhoh3:

Just took lab practical 1 out of 2. It was on digestive/heart/arteries+veins/blood. I am pretty sure I did great on it. I also then took lecture exam #2 on cardiovascular online and I got another 98%. Next week I have lecture exam #3 Immune+Lymphatic( he finally added immune+lympatic in). Then we spend a lot of time on respiratory and have an entire test dedicated to just it. It's really rolling by at a fast clip now. 3 weeks in - 6 1/2 to go.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you:) :)

OK I got my practical back. 94%.

I found something out though and it kinda bothers me.

My friend takes the same lab as me on Mon/Wed. I take mine on Tues/Thurs ..but our grades are posted online via webct.

Anywhooooooooooooooooooooo.....her class was given 5 extra credit points for no reason. He just told them he thought they " needed it". MY class was not given 5 extra credit points. I guess he felt we didn't " need it" or whatever. Thing is no one in my class ( except me) knows about the Mon/Wed extra credit. I know people in my section who scored C's, etc. They could use an extra 5 pts too.

Has anyone ever had any experience w/ a prof. who gave 1 section extra credit ( for no reason- as in there weren't any extra credit questions) and not done the same for another? I've never ran into this before. I still have an A so grade-wise it's not going to affect me...but I guess I just find this off. Then again, life's not fair.

Any thoughts?

Wow, that's crazy. I mean I have had professors adjust the schedule and readjust how much points a test/assignment is worth. (My favorite was when we didn't have to take the last exam unless we wanted to bring our grade up.) But that's usually due to time factors, not how well the class is doing.

My current A&P instructor is really strict as far as that goes. For all of his A&P classes you can only get a total of 8 extra credit points. And he's also very strict about how many points equal an A. Witness my friend last semester who was one point off. OOh she was upset. He will curve the grades up if the average is below a C. Last semester he did that for one test on tissues and the skin, but that was only 1 point. And this is a very rare occurence, becuase he tells us that our class averages are a lot higher than other classes taught by other instructors.

But anyway 5 points seems like it is a lot. It would be enough to bring a person up 2 grades on one of our tests.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOO FINISHED WITH AP2! gotta take AP3 still though...sigh...thats ok, i was lucky enough to be able to start my nrusing program while taking my pre reqs concurrently.........lots of work but well worth it!!!!!!!!!!!!

 :yelclap:

Way to Goooooo!

Congratulations to everyone on their great scores.

I have something to celebrate too. I got a 40/40, 100% on my last test on blood vessels & the lymphatic system. Yeah!!!

And I was so down after I did poorly on my last test. I'm still shooting for that A.

Congrats on the awesome grade...I get the results back on my lympathic/respiratory exam and my first practical tonight... :uhoh3:

I was kind of slacking on my studying, but I feel like I did OK (I think, I hope)...

Cheri :)

Congrats on a great grade! :)

I got my take home test result: 95% and I am proud of it, because, I was tempted to open the book once, I didn't :)

I am getting my test results from test 2 & 3 back on Monday and will let you know how that went :) I have 5 weeks left :)

Good luck and keep it up

Why not try asking the teacher himself/herself about it? Hearsay is just that, I would ask the professor myself.

It's not hearsay - it's true. The Mon/Wed class got an extra 5 credit points added to their grade ( she had a 72.2 but got a 77.2- I've seen her test with my own eyeballs..it says right on there +5 ec and she said her entire class got it). My section ( Tues/Thurs) was not given additional points. I scored a 94- and stayed a 94. Another classmate scored an 86 and stayed an 86. Yet another got a 71 and stayed a 71....yadda yadda the list goes on

As for asking the professor- *I* don't really care for myself, personally. I just thought it was odd-. It *could* have helped other people in my section, though- they just don't know about it.- so I guess it bothers me that I don't feel they were given the same treatment. An extra 5 points isn't going to do much to my score..
