How did you get your first pct position?

Im a nursing student looking for my first patient care technician position, How did you get your first pct position? I'm even looking at nursing home but they require a gnat license around here? Anyone know the typical nursing home pay for cna/gna especially in the dmv area? Share your experiences.

I just finished my first year of nursing school in May. I just started my first PCT position on June 1st at a local hospital. I actually got hired on the floor where I had clinical because I caught the attention of the floor director. Its really been a blessing and I love it!

I was in nursing school and after the first nursing class I was able to "challenge" the CNA license test. Once I got my license I worked in a nursing home for a year then got hired in the recovery room in a hospital. Good luck!

I've been a CNA for 6 years and now in nursing school. I just got a PCT job at a hospital. Have you finished your Fundamentals? Usually after you pass this class you can apply for hospital jobs.

I got my CNA and worked at a nursing home for a year. After that, I applied for ~50 PCT jobs and that's how I got my current job in the emergency department

I received my CNA and started out as a sitter for high risk patients for 7 months (I had no previous experience), then I became a tech on the float pool for about a year and a month or two but knew the ER was where I wanted to be. I'm about 5 months into working in the ER and love it! They also hire nursing students who are have successfully completed a few clinical rotations versus CNA or EMT's.

I volunteered at my local hospital and got to know a lot of people! Then after I got my Cna license I spoke with the supervisor of the ED and he offered my a job!

I've worked healthcare in various positions, but after I got my PCT certificate, my sister who is a RN at the hospital was a big influence on how I got the job. Seems some Hospitals tend to like to hire people referenced by another employer at their facility, because I've read about it on their website about referring a friend to join the team.

I was a student nurse in my pediatric clinical. I printed some thank you notes to fill out for each RN an NA I was going to work with that day and handed them out before I left. I volunteered myself for any task the patient, the RN, or the NA needed to get done. I even did the vitals for some of the other NAs. Basically, I made a great impression.

The same day, I asked one of the NAs if the unit was short staffed. She said absolutely and introduced me to the Nurse Educator. I got my resume, which I ALWAYS brought to my peds clinical, and gave it to the Educator. She called me two weeks later for an interview and was hired that day. [emoji258][emoji171]
