When I got hired at my hospital I already had my Bls, but I know during orientation they had those who did not or needed to renew theirs stay late one day and provided the class for free

The same thing happens where I work, also when I am working with another tech. If you are a hard worker people see that and use it to their advantage sometimes but props to you for being such a great CNA! As to why no one will help, because they are lazy! Just keep asking for help when you need it and hopefully you will find someone who is willing to work as hard as you!

I definitely suggest doing pct before nursing, it's good experience and it lets you know exactly what you're getting into so you can see if you even like it. I am a tech in the ER so my day is a little different than most units. I do not have a typical routine, but I can tell you things that I do on a normal day. I take a lot of vitals, lots of ekgs, blood draws, splints and clean wounds, and make sure to chart it all in the little to non existent down time I have! It's pretty hectic but I love it!

Hi everyone! I have been working at my current hospital for over 6 months now as an emergency department technition doing basic Cna work plus extra like ekgs and blood draws. I just found out today that a friend of mine got hired as a Cna on the med surg floor making a significant amount more per hour than me. I am wondering if I should ask for a raise, I think that it is unfair that someone who just got hired and who is qualified to do less than I am is getting paid more. I wish that she had never mentioned how much she was getting paid but I suppose she was just excited! I am wondering what your opinions are? Should I ask for a raise and if so how should I do it? thank you 😊

definitely! my supervisor has hired almost all of our techs as RN's when they graduate!

What exactly is the role of an ED tech in a code situation? What should I and shouldn't I be doing? Also, any tips would be helpful! Thanks!

Right now I'm a tech in an emergency department, we also have an urgent care section which gets mostly our ortho and cold/flu things that are not life threatening. So urgent is much easier than the ER. In the ER we get any sort of emergency, heart attacks lacerations etc. icu is a lot different because those are patients that are admitted to stay there because they need critical care. As a nurse you only have about two patients at a time, in the ER you have around 5. I love working in the ER though because you never know what you'll get and you're always learning something!

I had a confused elderly patient with an infection who spit, kicked, and hit as us we were trying to give her iv medication, we then had to hold her arms and legs down to give it to her and she called us all crazy huge a**holes lol

The same is happening in western mass now, I work in the ED and our heroin ods have more than quadrupled this past few months!

I work in an ED annex which used to be urgent care and usually the techs do splints and casts here!

I absolutely love it! I have never seen exposed brains haha! And I love that there are so many things you can learn, it's not the same old same old like on other floors! Cons are definitely crisis (psyc) patients though.

Pacu, recovery room, or OR! Your patients will be sleeping most of the time lol
