I am a soon to be recent graduate (1 week and counting). I will be working in the OR at Children's hospital. I would like some suggestions on the best shoes to stand still for long periods of time. Does anyone have a suggestion? Thanks so much.

:balloons: hi stacy,

here's what i wear. they are called zcoils and you can check them out online..http://www.zcoil.com. they are wonderful, ugly but wonderful.. i have plantar fasciata, high arches and aa width also very old bones in my feet from years of barefoot jazzercise and doing the 68 mile avon walk for brest cancer..so, they are expensive i spent $165 for mine 3 years ago but have worn them almost every day (night) i work midnights 5 nights in the lab so to be on a cardiac floor and never sit down. i also wore them for nursing school and clinicals. i am going to go to the zcoil store this week because i need new shoelaces and am considering getting a new pair for nursing in black just because they are so comfy and the hugh metal spring that is under the heel is so "springy" for lack of a better work!!

check them out, love em.. worth every penny'

I mostly wear Dansko's... If I'm called in for something easy, I throw on the Crocs.

If you check out http://www.crocs.com you will find "REAL" crocs, WITHOUT holes. That's probably the OSHA thing that someone mentioned.

Check the website.... hole-less crocs are now available in many colors....

Zcoils are weird looking, but incredibly comfortable. They are expensive, but I think, worth it. You can get a cover for the heel to eliminate the worry about tangling in tubing/cords.

I've always loved Crocs 'til I discovered SAS shoes. Crocs is very light and comfortable; however, I get tripped all the time. I spent hundreds of dollars experimenting on rubber shoes -- none worked, my feet hurt. Just last week, an SAS outlet was opened near our area. Their shoes are expensive - i bought one that cost $128... I almost choked... but, hey; it's our comfort we're talking about here... guess what, IT'S WORTH IT! I used it last night and I swear... it's the best shoes I've ever had.

I know a few people who swear by Keen's - the Newport H2 and Venice H2 lines. http://www.keenfootwear.com

I wear Dansko shoes or Z-Coils. I also always wear a full support hose (the real Rx kind), and have orthotics for days when I need the extra. I work long cases often and have found that anything to keep my legs from aching and feet from hurting is the best. Also, get regular foot massages and see a podiatrist or specialist to keep your feet in good shape. It sounds so yadda, yadda, yea, yea, but really if you plan on a long career you must think in those terms.

I just bought a pair of the crocs specialist- brand new version. I cannot believe how comfortable they are. For the first time, I have gotten through a shift without sore feet. I didn't think it was possible to get a comfortable shoe because I have (what a podiatrist said was) floating arches with a wide foot [can't wear all the comfy brands that don't come in wide widths]. I hesitated buying crocs until this model came out, with it wide design and higher arch. It may be worth looking into it. It also comes in a model with vents.

I have tried tons of different shoes in my 30+ years of OR nursing but I have found my dream shoe - Quarks. They come in a variety of colors (I have two pair..white and navy) and they are the lightest shoe I have ever worn. (Note: I have no financial interest in this product.)

I wear croc's, like everyone else I have tried god knows how many different shoes and croc's I find are best for my back and my feet!

The unfortunate thing about them is that they will be banned in our theatres as of August, apparently....and I am dubious, but in sweeden they have been found to give off static that has interfered with cardiac monitors!!!

Personally I say...what a load of rubbish! But we had a memo just yesterday telling us that we were not allowed to wear croc's after August 1st!! I am devastated! I love my croc's!!! :(

most of the people I work with including myself wear Dansko either the clog or the type with a back. I have tried crocs..... didn't work for me but some people love them. Good luck ;-)

I have worked in the O.R 15years and have gone thru many types of shoes. #2 shoe would have to be the Super Burks #1 shoe after wearing these for 2 years would have to be MBTthese shoes have saved my feet 100 times over. I am a trauma nurse in the O.R so you know my puppies get action. The MBT are on the pricey but well worth the $200 + I paid for them. Happy shoe shopping.:balloons:

I have used only Super Burkies for years, and would not even consider any others. You can change out the innersoles as needed. And they actually have a very solid front toe area. Had about 30# of weights come down on my foot a few years ago, and in any other shoe would have been off work for at least 6 weeks if not longer. Only had a small bruise across two toes.

Work great in other areas of the hospital as well, you cannot run over your feet with a gurney or bed.
