For prospective applicants for the 2017 year in the program. Being as I am currently wait listed in the 2016 year due to a very late application, there is a high probability I would have to apply again come November 1st 2016 for the following year acceptance.

November 1st, 2016 is the priority application deadline for the 2017 year. All materials (GRE, official transcripts, application payment, letters of recommendation, statement of intent) must have been submitted by this date.

Letters of acceptance for August 2016 orientation and start were sent out the first week of February 2016. Wait listed recipients received their wait list offer in an around the first week of March 2016 with the caveat that seats may open well into late July.

RN / PNP info: Yes, you can work as an RN even after you have your NP license. I know of people who did just that for experience and had no issue getting hired as an NP. And you won't have a BSN at the end of 's program, but you will have passed the NCLEX so you can legally work as an RN. Places hiring will see you have a bachelors degree so even if you didn't complete the 2nd year, you could still work as an RN. Some students plan to work part time their 2nd year as an RN and make it a 3 year program. I am currently in the program and am thrilled that I am here. The faculty are very supportive...I would say almost overboard considering this is a masters program. Yes, you will be busy and need to study plenty, but if you do study, you will be successful. They space out exams so you only have one in a week except for finals. Clinical sites and experiences are great. Congrats to those accepted!

Thanks for the insights wannabemsf and futurenp14. I definitely am beginning to understand the job outlook a bit more and just need to be comfortable with the unknown in terms of finding employment after the program. And it definitely does differ from state to state and city to city. But I have spoken with some NPs at the hospital where I work, which is an academic hospital, and they all say that working as an RN is invaluable experience but not necessary, even in Los Angeles. They also raved about and said it's an amazing program and something I definitely shouldn't pass up, even if I have other options like ABSN programs at equally or higher ranked schools. So maybe that perspective might help anyone trying to decide! I have a feeling I'll be committing to Vandy very soon :).

If there are any current or former students lurking on this board (or anyone with any insight on this) do you mind answering the following questions??

I was accepted pre-specialty psych and am really excited about the prospect of attending , but I still don't feel like I have a good idea of the day-to-day scheduling and atmosphere of this program. Particularly for the specialty year and the whole block formatting thing. Does this mean that we literally only have classes on these block days? Are the classes all day 8-5 for these days? or are there online classes in-between? I'm worried about online classes versus daily classes in person in terms of quality and really grasping the material in this format--do you feel at a disadvantage compared to other programs where you're on campus the whole time?

Since I'm psych specialty I'm required to stay in Nashville the whole two years--how does this change the scheduling for the specialty year? Is it still the same block schedule with the distance folks? And how far are clinicals from Nashville typically (I've heard they can be up to 2 hours one way)

How would you say the overall atmosphere of the program is? Is it competitive or supportive? Are people feeling overwhelmed completing all of this in only 2 years? And along this line do you feel prepared to practice in just 2 years? Is it weird with the distance learning folks only coming in a few times a semester and not feeling like you really get to know people?

Sorry if this is a bit lengthy and all the questions-- I am just feeling so overwhelmed trying to make this decision and any info helps!! Thanks!!

Hey guys,

Anybody not from Nashville and looking for a roommate? I'm starting the PNP program in the fall and moving from Tampa.

Hey! I'm actually PNP but direct entry, so i won't be moving to nashville. I'm doing the distance program and am actually moving to Tampa to complete it! do you have any suggestions on safe places to live? do you think tampa or st pete would be better?

I would recommend St. Pete. Living in Tampa is more expensive if you don't have roommates. Right now I live in off-campus student housing and have 2 other roommates so it's not as bad.

Hi Everyone!

I am super late to the game! I just submitted my application about 4 days ago for the ENP program. I do not think my chances for admission are great, but hey! it's worth a shot! Now the waiting game begins!

Congratulations to everyone who was admitted!

Anyone know when the full scholarships will be communicated? Or have they been decided already?

Anyone know when the full scholarships will be communicated? Or have they been decided already?

Your scholarship should have been communicated in your acceptance letter.

I thought there were still a couple of full scholarships that are yet to be announced, separate from what was in the acceptance letter? Anyone who went to the Open House know when they will be announced?

Yes, there are still 3 full tuition scholarships (1 for specialty, 1 for pre-specialty, and 1 for a minority) that have not been awarded yet. Those will be awarded sometime between mid-March and early April.
