For prospective applicants for the 2017 year in the Vanderbilt MSN program. Being as I am currently wait listed in the 2016 year due to a very late application, there is a high probability I would have to apply again come November 1st 2016 for the following year acceptance.
November 1st, 2016 is the priority application deadline for the 2017 year. All materials (GRE, official transcripts, application payment, letters of recommendation, statement of intent) must have been submitted by this date.
Letters of acceptance for August 2016 orientation and start were sent out the first week of February 2016. Wait listed recipients received their wait list offer in an around the first week of March 2016 with the caveat that seats may open well into late July.
How much work experience did you have? Is it pretty rare to be admitted without psych nursing experience?
Hi, I'm sorry I just saw this! I believe pre-specialty and direct entry are the same? I am from California and I did my Vandy interview over the phone, the interviewers were great. And I had a bachelors in psychology and a year of work experience as a case worker in a psychiatric facility. Not sure how much of a role experience plays, but they definitely ask you why you're interested in psych and where you see yourself working in the future.
Hi everyone! I'm applying for fall of 2018, and I would really love to hear the "stats" of those admitted, denied, or wait-listed from last year.I know it doesn't mean a whole lot, but I can't stop wondering, I'm so impatient! :)
These programs typically look at the applicant as a whole so I wouldn't read too much into stats. But I was accepted and I had 162 verbal, 160 quantitative, and 5 on analytical writing on the GRE. Undergrad GPA was a 3.57 and prereq GPA was a 4.0. I also had a year experience as a case worker in a psychiatric facility and that is what they asked me most about during my interview.
Well, I was going to go to the open house but hotels are astronomically high!
Nashville hotels are quite expensive. The hostel in Nashville is pretty good (even has private rooms which could be cheaper than a hotel). It is located near Vanderbilt and Music Row so an Uber or taxi wouldn't be too expensive.
Hi guys - This post is semi-dependent on me getting into the PMHNP program for 2018. At my current university, the previous five or so cohorts that graduated prior to us made a google docs page for posting their personal study guides for exams and other pertinent information to allow future students the opportunity to actually study instead of looking up all of the study guide answers, etc. Is this something that is done at VU or if not, would anyone be interested in starting a "senior buddies" google docs that the next class can pass down to the next group and on and on? Especially early on in any program, something like this can be invaluable in terms of budgeting time.
Hi! I just applied to Vandy and wanted to share that adailydoseofwellness.com is a blog by a Vanderbilt NP student that I found super helpful in my search for programs like this. If anyone is interested in NP programs for non-nurses this is a great resource. She has responded to questions I've commented/asked her and is very open about the program.
