Midwestern State University spring 2015 hopeful

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

I have finally gotten everything situated with my classes and GPA to FINALLYYYY apply! I am sending in my application this week, just finished up my chem class with a B thank god. I have a 3.0 GPA for my prerequisites and about 60 to 63 points. What do you think my chances are for getting in? When I talked to my advisor she said if I got a B in chem then I should have no problem but my worrying self doesn't want to wait that long to see. And how long did it take for a response. Application deadline is August 15th. Any helpful advise would be appreciated!!

I was trying to figure a breakdown of what it's going to cost to go to nursing school at MSU I already have all of my basics except chemistry and intro to sociology. I'm trying to figure out because I have to pay it all myself. I called up to the business office and they explained to me that it's 471.75 per semester hour in the nursing program that equals out to $5,661 the first fall semester because ther are (12 hrs)4,245.75 spring (9 hrs)

6,132.75 the next fall semester (13hrs)

$6609.50 spring (14hrs)

And then

7,072.25 the last fall semester (15hrs)

which totals $ 39,720.25

Would you please look over this and verify that for me. Because I really don't think it sounds correct

I just called Jena also, I got in with 68 points and was #55 on the list! So excited! Can't wait to see everyone in the spring!

Tiffaniebush, did you apply for financial aide? Also, they offer scholarships for transfer students GPA so I would talk to the donor services to see what you can do.

Yeah, that does not sound right to me at all. When I did the calculations based on the tuition calc for them, tuition came out to almost $3000 for the first semester. No matter which way I look at it, it wasn't close to $5000. Even UTA's tuition is $4500 for full time per semester. Maybe that tuition they gave you includes insurance and textbooks?? lol

I spoke with Catherine and she was like whoa no it's like 3400 after fees for semester 1

So $3,400 for tuition and fees? Perfect! That makes so much more sense! I was beginning to freak out! So if I want to live at Mustang Village I'll need minimum $6,800 for the semester... Do you know if we need to buy insurance or pay for any additional services?

I'm sure but hopefully it's not too high the books aren't included in that so of course that increases cost quite a bit

Everybody's is going to be a little different because the first semester includes, Intro to Professional Nursing, Statistics, Path, and Family Health Nursing + Clinical, I have taken all of these but the clinical at UTA, so I will only have to have 3 hours in the Spring, (but I'm retaking Path because I'm currently it online and don't feel like I'm learning anything and the information is important for nursing but I currently have an A), and a physical education class, just because ... but I will only have 7 hours

Yeah, I don't have to take the Intro or the Path class in the Spring because I have those done already but I don't know how being below 12 hours will effect my financial aid. Does anyone know?

Technically you won't be a full time student. since you are only enrolled in 6 hours you will only receive 50% of your financial aid like me, I will be enrolled in 7. Because of this I thought about adding extra classes, but this is a whole new environment to me and I don't want to be overwhelmed, so I'm just sticking to my 7 hours.

But since your tuition decreased because your taking less hours, you should still have enough to pay your tuition.

What most students in the program now do is they find filler classes. So any class to add to make 12 credits. So like I'm taking only Health Assesment as well but I will pick up other classes so that I can get the 12 hours. I'm picking easy classes like this health class online and appreciating of music. There are other classes U can find to take as well

Yeah, I did that this semester, I added a nutrition class so I could be a full time student (& it turns out to be VERY demanding and time consuming) but I will have to look into that because I would need 2 classes to be full time. but I have taken music appreciation before, so when we have orientation and register for classes I will see what I can find.
