Midwestern State University spring 2015 hopeful

Published

I have finally gotten everything situated with my classes and GPA to FINALLYYYY apply! I am sending in my application this week, just finished up my chem class with a B thank god. I have a 3.0 GPA for my prerequisites and about 60 to 63 points. What do you think my chances are for getting in? When I talked to my advisor she said if I got a B in chem then I should have no problem but my worrying self doesn't want to wait that long to see. And how long did it take for a response. Application deadline is August 15th. Any helpful advise would be appreciated!!

I don't know about that though, I didn't want a easy going nursing program ... their NCLEX pass rate is 75% & that kind of worries me, but that was the only nursing program I could apply to because I didn't complete all sections of the HESI. I got in and I guess it will have to work.
I heard the same thing and that really worries me! I got accepted into here and SHSU so far, but I'm thinking really hard about going to SHSU especially since I would be out a semester early. I just don't know what to do. Until MSU gets around to sending me a letter, I went ahead and accepted SHSU, but at this point everything will depend on how much Financial Aid each of them awards to me. I put all of my eggs into MSU but I wasn't sure any other school I applied to would have spots or accept me but now I'm just so confused. Do you (or anyone else reading this), have any advice? I really feel like I would be comfortable at MSU and I know some people there but the NCLEX pass rate and the duration of the program worries me...

compare tuition rates

how much financial aid each of the schools gave you

distance from family and friends (even though you might not be able to see them that often because you will dedicate most of your time and energy to the program a support system is needed)

compare NCLEX pass rates (even though MSU is a semester longer, like you said I feel like I would be more comfortable there)

length of the program

background of the program (see if you can do a little research and see what employers are saying about the graduates of both MSU and SHSU)

cost of living

and any other things that interest you about the potential area for you to be living in

& MSU NCLEX pass rate for 2012 was 83.57% and about the same for 2011, so maybe they just had a minor setback and have already made a few changes to adjust accordingly to get back on track

Hope this helps :)

@aimingforabsn, the decision is yours to make, just make your research about these schools. Being out a semester early or not, it is your dedication to the program that matters. I would choose MSU, do not let the NCLEX pass rate bother you, count yourself as one of the 80% that pass. I have a lot friends that graduated from MSU, they passed and have good jobs now. Truly MSU is very lenient in terms passing the program. Intructors are very helpful. The five semester does seem long but it's very good. It gives less to do each semester. And having less to do makes it easier for you to pass. Knowing a lot of people at MSU is not what matters right now, your success is what you should think about now. I know you are in a very tough situation at this point, but with prayer and God on your side, I hope you will be able to make a choice. All the best.

I agree about the 5 semesters and less to do that's great about the program also I know a lot of girls that have passed and have great jobs and if your concerned about not knowing anyone most of these students won't it's nice to move off and meet new people also join the group on Facebook I created it first have a lot of peoe yet but it will gradually then you can familiarize yourself with everyone going into the program I think the group is under 2015 Midwestern State University Nursing good luck!

@breonab @trudy2017 Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. I've been leaning towards MSU but until SHSU awards me aid for the Spring, I'm not going to make any solid decisions. As it is, MSU's tuition is more reasonable and so is the room and board. I'm about 90% sure that I'll meeting you all in the Spring (which I can't wait for), I just want to wait for a financial aid response. The 5 semesters don't mean anything when you compare it to the rewards and I know a lot of nurses that work at Cooks and CMH so thats certainly not a problem. Thank you so much for the advice!!

Does anybody know anything about MSU's transfer scholarships? I currently have a 3.6, enrolled in 12 hours and looking to make a 4.0 this semester .. well hoping.

I don't but that's awesome keep up the good work

Other than the nursing scholarship, but that's not open right now... Have you tried applying to outside scholarships, like from fastweb and stuff? That's an amazing GPA, good luck on getting your 4.0 :)

They have an automatic transfer scholarship based on your GPA. Also, if you're apart of Phi theta kappa they give you an automatic 2,000 dollar scholarship. I hope that this helps

Also, does anyone know if you take nursing courses during the summer at MSU?

@Tiffaniebush, no you dont get the scholarship. Or no you dont get to take nursing courses during the summer?
