Ohio University RN-to-BSN Program

Nursing Students Ohio University

Updated:   Published

Since it seems that there's quite a bit of interest, I'm attempting to start a new thread devoted exclusively to the OU on-line RN-BSN program that will hopefully build on the comments on assorted previous threads.

I'd like to ask nevergonnagiveup, mtsteelhorse and babynurse73 - all of whom (I think) are either already in the program or have applied for admission - to post about their experiences. I just sent in my application and plan to post periodically about relevant issues. If we can populate the thread with good material, it could become a very useful resource for both those considering the OU program and students already in it. Once that happens, I'd hope we could prevail upon the forum moderators to make it a sticky thread.

As indicated, I've only recently applied to the program. So far, I'm happy with the support and information I've gotten. I've been contacted by an OU "enrollment specialist" who was somewhat helpful (I suspect that they have dual roles, one being to provide basic information to prospective students and the other to follow-up with the prospects and help to fill the roster for the program). This person e-mailed me, followed up with a phone call and was able to provide some useful, if basic, information about the program. I also sent a lengthy e-mail to OU with quite a number of specific, detailed questions. This too resulted in both an e-mail and telephone response, this time from an academic advisor in the OU School of Nursing. Again I received some useful and quite helpful information. All in all, my early experience has been pretty positive.

As indicated above, I plan to post about relevant issues that come up as I work my way through the admission and evaluation process. I'd very much like to hear from others about their experience with OU and I'm sure that there will be a lot of interest by others in our collective experience with the program.

cincinursemary, i appreciate your input. i am going to take diversity by itself. i can hardly wait to start my first class on 8/27.

i think it's doable with another class, honestly. just finished it, it wasn't too too bad.

A Junior English Comp class in any level 300 English course that has a letter "J" following the course number. For instance, I completed mine last quarter and was titled, "ENG 308J - Writing and Rhetoric II."

I will be beginning this Fall and I have a few questions;

1. I have to take 3 general ed courses; a fine arts, a cross-cultural, and a junior level writing course. Are these courses priced differently than the nursing courses? If so, anyone know the cost?

2. I would like to take 2 classes at a time, are there two that anyone would suggest definitely not taking together?

3. any suggestions for which of the fine arts, cross-cultural, or junior level writing courses to take? I see that this fall the Retail Merchandising & Fashion product development course is offered, I did a little research throughout this post and people seem to think its way too difficult, is this still the case?

Thanks!

I'm in an Arts course.. Intro to arts, Arts in context with Professor C, and Business communication with Professor F right now. They aren't hard, just a lot of work. I'm planning on doing an intersession course of Anthropology for the Cross cultural requirement. It's a 10 day course and less than $400. They were both posted through our program classes, so they run the same as the nursing courses.

Did you see the email that says Nursing Courses will not be available till the first day of the semester. I liked getting a head start on classes. Bummer.

I wonder why the change??

Simply Complicated, Is Business communication considered as a junior level course? which code is listed under somehow I can not find this class.

BY the way for the nurses who asked about the tuition for RN-BSN , it is $243/ credit hour for non residents versus $240 for residents; I just get the bill for Fall 2012.

Yes it is a Junior level english course. Maybe it's not being offered for Fall?

I think the change for courses not being up before the first day is because they are all switching to Blackboard, and will no longer be using Epic. So it's going to take them until the first day to get it all switched over.

I saw it on the schedule for Fall but the class was full last time I looked at it.

I know this question has probably been answered before, and I do apologize in advance for asking again:

Do I have to pass all classes with a "B" grade which is 86% or does that just apply to nursing classes? I'm in my first class now which is Business Communication and I have an 89%, but I still have 1 large project to complete.

From my memory, which is a bit questionable right now.... only the nursing courses have the B requirement.

The B is only for the nursing courses, electives are passable with a C.
