Ohio University RN-to-BSN Program

Nursing Students Ohio University

Updated:   Published

Since it seems that there's quite a bit of interest, I'm attempting to start a new thread devoted exclusively to the OU on-line RN-BSN program that will hopefully build on the comments on assorted previous threads.

I'd like to ask nevergonnagiveup, mtsteelhorse and babynurse73 - all of whom (I think) are either already in the program or have applied for admission - to post about their experiences. I just sent in my application and plan to post periodically about relevant issues. If we can populate the thread with good material, it could become a very useful resource for both those considering the OU program and students already in it. Once that happens, I'd hope we could prevail upon the forum moderators to make it a sticky thread.

As indicated, I've only recently applied to the program. So far, I'm happy with the support and information I've gotten. I've been contacted by an OU "enrollment specialist" who was somewhat helpful (I suspect that they have dual roles, one being to provide basic information to prospective students and the other to follow-up with the prospects and help to fill the roster for the program). This person e-mailed me, followed up with a phone call and was able to provide some useful, if basic, information about the program. I also sent a lengthy e-mail to OU with quite a number of specific, detailed questions. This too resulted in both an e-mail and telephone response, this time from an academic advisor in the OU School of Nursing. Again I received some useful and quite helpful information. All in all, my early experience has been pretty positive.

As indicated above, I plan to post about relevant issues that come up as I work my way through the admission and evaluation process. I'd very much like to hear from others about their experience with OU and I'm sure that there will be a lot of interest by others in our collective experience with the program.

I decided to save my book from the Legal/Ethics class because I still have to take Intro to Ethics. I thought I could use this book as a reference.

If you are taking this class with professor L you do not need to worry about referencing, it is not even required and if you decide to than the textbook from the course is sufficient! That class had a DB and a quiz once a week and a nonproctored midterm and final. No papers whatsoever!

Just an FYI to all of you who still have electives to take. Check out Cincinnati State Technical College and Sinclair. They are much cheaper than OU, I think around $85 per credit hour and their courses transfer. Just check with your advisor before taking a course there. I was able to take philosophy, nutrition and music through Cincinnati State and saved a lot of money. Good luck!

What courses did you take, Do you have the course numbers?

They are moving to semsters in the fall too.

The nutrition class was at Cin. State: 1202 Nutrition for Healthy Life with professor C.A.(I would HIGHLY recommend this class with this professor. It was a GREAT class and no stress, you could easily take this with 2 other classes).

The music class was JAZZ at Cin. State and I would NOT recommend this class at all, but I know they have other options. My TA was reluctant to approve JAZZ so I would check into different options for this one.

The philosophy class was at Cin. State: 1621 Intro. to Philosophy. It wasn't bad, just made you think differently. I always felt like my brain hurt after doing assignments. There were two tests, not bad at all. A homework and discussion board each week, not too bad.

I know my friend took classes at Sinclair. A chemistry class and some anthropology class, just not sure which ones.

Just make sure you get the okay from your TA before registering for classes.

Good Luck!

Any suggestions from you veterans out there? Especially re the cultural geneology graph and the questions from the web site. Did you answer every question the guy says to "think about", or just the questions in the gray box at the end?

Could use all the help I can get.

I'm not sure if the assignment is still the same, but there were two gray boxes at the end of my assignment template. I answered the questions above the gray boxes.

2 questions... For those of you who took Business communications, is the last week of class work able to be done and completed by midweek? My C-section is scheduled for the 10th, and class ends the 11th. I'm debating on doubling up and taking it with my Intro to Arts course, but just need to make sure I can complete my work by Wednesday or Thursday that week. I can email the instructor to be sure, but figured I'd ask here first.

Also, I got the email saying when I can register for Fall. But the courses are not posted yet. When do they usually put those up?

Is this Prof F's class? If so - the answer is yes, it can be completed early. Have no idea about Prof P's class. Prof F - seems like a lot of work at first glance but is very doable - weekly articles to read and write a memo about and then 3 "large" projects that span over several weeks.

I think it's Prof. F's. That sounds doable. I think I'm going to go for it. I really would like to get as many electives out of the way right now as I can. That will leave me with Stats, a cross cultural, which I can always complete the intercession course at whatever that school was, Wyoming or whateve. I have to do Chemistry at some point as well.

I was actually told by my adviser that this Fall, they are offering a new class called NRSE 370J, that is a 5 week Jr Composition course, anyone else hear this?

Heard the same thing . I'm totally holding out for it!

I am taking 310 and there is mention of a head to toe assessment in the resources, but not in the actual assignments. I emailed my TA and she said that there WILL be an head to toe assessment but they have not worked out the details!! Honestly, I did not expect this!! I assume this means I will have to find a preceptor? Frustrates me that this was not communicated sooner. Any of you that have taken the class, have you ever been required to do a head to toe assessment as part of this class?
