What's the weirdest baby name?

Specialties Ob/Gyn Nursing Q/A

Hi, I was wondering about some of those weird names that you've probably encountered in L&D and PP. I remember when I had my maternity rotation a couple of weeks ago, one of the nurses said she remembers a patient that named her child Placenta. I couldn't believe it that some child has to live his life named after disgusting afterbirth!

I heard of two kids named Lemonjello (La-mon-gelo)and Orangejello (O-ron-gelo). On Jay Leno, I heard Matthew McConaughey's brother is named Rooster and he named his son Miller Lite.

Those were the ones I was thinking of, I heard thier name called in court one day and never forgot it.

They must really get around.:uhoh3:

I read a sad news story the other day about a 2 yr old killed by a 9 yr old. :scrying: The whole story was heartbreaking. The reason I'm mentioning it here was the little 2 yr girl's name: Damya. Now this could have been a feminine form of Damien, pronounced "Day-me-ah" or "Da-my-ah". I would guess she heard "Dam-ya" atleast once in her short life. I believe God has given her a new and beautiful name befitting one of His children.

Sorry to bring a downer into the thread but I needed to tell someone.

What a mean thing to say about this poor little girl.:o

Well, I have a personal story. My niece had a girl two days and she and her husband have been going around and around about the names he had picked out. They are all odd.

He wants "Keelyn" as his first pick . . . . we are hoping he backs down. :o

Whew . . they picked "Darcy Ann".

If the Lemonjello/Orangejello and Sh1thead stories were true, there would be kids with this name in every classroom in the country.

I recently saw in the local paper that someone named their son Aryan. I sure hope it's pronounced A-ryan but I can't believe nobody on the OB ward knew what that word meant. Or maybe they just couldn't talk the parents out of it.

And there was recently a little boy in the hospital named Ozzy. Not John Michael, which is Mr. Osbourne's real name, but OZZY.

Maybe the urban myth has caught on with actual parents . . :uhoh3:

My oldest son went to school with a "Shadon" which was pronounced almost exactly like sh1t-on . . . . I remember talking about it and how sad it was one day in a local diner and to my horror his grandparents were sitting next to me . . . fortunately they leaned over and said "we agree with you".

If you live in an area with a large Indian population, there will undoubtably be a "Sh1thead" in the class...

I've seen it many times in our NICU with Indian patients.

And like I said earlier, I went to high school with an Indian boy named Hardik.

These are from the "hippie" era: Buckshot Billy and his brother Cash Cody; Justin Thyme (I think someone else encountered this one, too); and Hallelujah Horseman.

Then there was Elder Dull, who was for a short time the pastor of the SDA church in Boring, Oregon. Dr. Micky Finn, an anesthesiologist, Dr. Loveless, an AIDS specialist, Dr. Kidd, a pediatrician, and Dr. Cutter, an OB/GYN surgeon. On a trip through the Southwest, I saw a sign for a Dr. Ken Hurts. If I remember correctly, he was a dentist.

I have a book copyrighted 1980 entitled Don't Blame the Stork which has some delightful examples of the topic.

Had a patient who named her daughter.....Moonlyte.....I thought that was a bit different!

I worked with a Dr. Doctor once. His full name was 'Uday Doctor'. He's an anesthesiologist.

It sounds like asher315 is saying that it is a comforting thought that God would give this precious child a special name of his choosing (a biblical principle, BTW) to replace her earthly name that could easily have sounded like a curse.

That doesn't sound mean to me at all.
