What's the weirdest baby name?

Specialties Ob/Gyn Nursing Q/A

Hi, I was wondering about some of those weird names that you've probably encountered in L&D and PP. I remember when I had my maternity rotation a couple of weeks ago, one of the nurses said she remembers a patient that named her child Placenta. I couldn't believe it that some child has to live his life named after disgusting afterbirth!

can't say it was a 'weird' name, per se....but one name that i have had at least 2 pts. name their kid was 'precious.' now, some people may think that's endearing or whatever, but to me it sounds like a name you'd give your poodle or a stripper.

:p

i know somebody named her baby " asia",.............no offense, it sounded more like a Media star :lol2:

omg.. i've just had the worst day... but all these names have me cracking up! i work as a health unit coordinator on a peds unit... we've definitely had our share of bizarre names... but the kicker was when one of our favorite ob/gyn mds was going to name his own baby summers eve.... :uhoh21:

eve summers sounds nice...summer's eve, seriously?

I know a woman who named her kids after countries

First born was named India, second born (my niece) is name Britian, third born is named Holland. Now pregnant with first boy and thinking about naming him Belize. I kid you NOT!

Perhaps that's where they were conceived. Does she travel a lot? Nelly Furtado named her child Nevis after the island. Makes me think of belly buttons.

I knew some people that named their daughter Atari!

At the college I attend, this girl's name first name is 'Baby Girl" . True it sounded so odd to hear professors call her by her name.

Man, some of these names are borderline abuse. I thanked my mom for not naming me Orangejello.

my friend named her kid isabella, now doesnt that sound like something you'd name a cow or something.

Actually it's an extremely popular name. It was #5 for girls in 2006 and #6 in 2005.

There will always be another girl in her class with the same name, if not two or three others.

A patient had twins. She named them The and Their. Their last name was Other. The Other and Their Other. Only in Memphis!

I can't believe someone would be so cruel as to name their kid "The" :angryfire

That's ridiculous! These parents need to realize that these babies are human beings who will grow up and need normal names. It's like they're picking cutsie things like you would for a doll or a dog...

Yes, I definitely agree. My husband works with a guy whose daughter is named Isabelle - she must be 3-4 about now. Every time I hear her name I think that it's so pretty. And she's a pretty little girl, too.

It sounds like a beautiful, classy name to me. :) Ah well, we all have different tastes.
