Hi, everyone, I've been reading all the posts here as I'm planning to go to New Jersey in the near future. I've been trying to find a agency to help with the paperwork. Adevia sounds a good one as they do direct hospital hires, but they haven't got any hospitals in NJ. The staff told me they could find me a job there through one of the agencies in US (not sure if any opt out fees apply). OGP has hospitals in NJ, but the opt out fee is $8000 after Nclex and $25,000 after arriving in US. I'm getting confused now. Which agency should I choose? Please please give your opinions!! Thank you a billion!

I think you will find that OGP have increased their costs to over $40,000 if you opt out once out in the US and this has been discussed a lot in this thread. Why do it with agency when can be done by yourself and approaching hospitals in NJ?

If you can afford to pay the upfront costs DONT go with an agency, go it alone, you'll find all the help you need here. There are some direct hire hospitals in NJ that I know of: Atlantic Health System in Florham Park, Bayonne Medical Center in Bayonne, Meridian Health System in Neptune and St Barnabas HealthCare System in Livingstone to name but a few.

Thanks everybody! The upfront fee is not a problem for me, but don't really fancy the stress and the mess. Will it be quicker/ easier if I do it alone? Has anybody gone through this way? Any discussions/ advices will be gratefully appreciated.

currently doing it myself with assistance of a recruiter, found it much better as I am going to where I want to go, no guarantees with agency, wasn't as expensive as I thought and hospital is refunding me all costs including my flights to the US when I had to sit NCLEX, that was before done in the UK. A lot of hospitals will petition you once you have passed NCLEX rather than before.

I stand corrected, thinking back to my old days, the Visa Screen Certificate is still only good for five years.............and that needs to be renewed every five years.

But it is still not automatically renewed, if you do not meet the requirements for maintaining permanent residency in the US.

    Hi Gemma,

Whatever you decide to do leave OGP out of your plans. They will promise you the world at the start of the process but will leave you feeling isolated undervalued and connned.

You have been warned from one who knows!!

    Good luck

I still have not signed. I havent had too much pressure put on me to do so. They keep telling me that the orginal contract states that they can amend it, but it does not. It states that both parties must agree in plain english. Also they want my reasons in writing, im reluctant to do so.

I just wonder what will happen in the end?
Has anybody been given an ultimatum?

My first experience with going o/s, thus far has been a disaster, and i still havent even left home.....

If you've checked out the contract & you're sure it doesn't give them the right to amend it then you should not sign anything new. If needs be get a solicitor to check it out, if they say it doesn't give them that right then you've got them!

Going to the USA is long haul, whatever route you choose, so don't be too hard on yourself! Now we have retrogression anyway so no-one is going there fast regardless of whether they went it alone or with an agency.

Your right. It just does not feel as clean cut as that. But it's a good way to look at it.

    Cheers.

    Hi Bongsau,
If your original contract with OGP is the same as mine it clearly states that neither party can amend it without written agreement from BOTH parties. So if you dont want to sign their new amendment you are still within your old contract.
Ask them to put into writing their reasons for wanting you to sign it. I bet they dont!! They will contact you by telephone after you have sent them your concerns in writing. Its almost as if they have something to hide!!

It sounds to me like they are not within their rights then so none of you should sign. I expect if you call their bluff & threaten them with law suits & solicitors they'll stop harrassing you to sign.

You will still be under the terms of their old contract so if they breach that by withdrawing job offers etc then you can sue them! my gut feeling is they won't though because they're just like any bully - a coward underneath & we all know what happens when you stand up to cowards!
