I received the ammendment so to speak as they call it, it goes on to ask you to sign an ammendment for increase in costs redeemable if for ANY reason you dont or carnt complete your contract, this part i actualy dont object to but they are asking my spouse to sign as a gaurentor!! and if for any reason i dont or carnt complete my contract they will go after him to retreive all cost this is totaling about $30000 and also pay all court costs etc. I have written them saying for expample what if i am disabled or god forbid die or am diagnosed with a serous illness you never know. Have also mentioned where are my guarentees regarding travel dates i was informed at signing it would be 18 months to 2 yrs and i would be out in the states here i still am.

if you already have a contract surely you dont need to sign any amendments if you are satisfied with the original terms?

Tell them to get stuffed they have a contract with you the one you signed at the being of the process- I am sure that they are not able to change things now just say no you are sticking with the orginal thank you

Would this have to do with an increasing demand for nurses and competition over qualified staff, better and better salaries, benefits and bonuses?

They want to make sure you don't get offered enough money as a bonus to be able to buy yourself out of the contract - in case somebody offers you a better deal.

30000 sounds outrageous - not just the money, the fact that they dare, and get away with it. Yuk.

I think they do want to stop people leaving and I know some hospitals are putting pressure on them to increase the amount(mine was one of them) and $8000 wasn't a lot to buy out when you can get sign on bonuses of $10000 however I think they should start by enforcing the amounts they have first before increasing the amount and increasing after you've signed is outrageous.

Sounds totally outrageous to me!! Pretty sure they can't change your contracts - you'll have to check out the small print for that though. Feel sorry for others who follow though.

I think it's time people woke up to OGP & voted with their feet if this is how they mean to treat their future employees! They are not the only company out there so future nurses should check out the alternatives. Someone at work is going with OGP & they wish they'd gone with another company too.

My get out clause is $10000, my contract 18 months & I don't have to work 40 hrs a week, unless that is the usual contract of the place I'm going to be working at. Therefore, I'm only expected to work the same as my colleagues will be working. My pay is better than OGP & I'm entitled to holidays (US amounts though) that won't extend my contract.

Hope you guys all stick to your guns, if no-one re-signs they'll be up the creek without a paddle!!

Consult a lawyer. It is against the law to put a price on breaking a contract in the first place. Let alone having a third party liable for it. Might be a way to get you out of the thing in the first place.

Iam new here and I looked for this topic straight away..OGP text me this morning and gave me a deadline for the ammendment papers and guarantor papers. Anybody send it back?
