What shoes do you wear at work?

I've been a nurse since August 08, but since I'm now 40, shoes have always been a big issue with me since clinicals. My feet and legs just aren't as young as they used to be.

After experimenting, I've found running shoes to work the best for me. Most "nursing" shoes that I've tried are just so heavy. One pair I had made my legs so tired at the end of a 6 hour clinical, I don't know how I could have handled 12.

My sister who is an OR nurse likes leather athletic shoes, but she does more standing and I do more walking. I just bought a pair of the Skechers Shape-Ups on-line and I'm kind of hoping they'd work well (once I get used to them.)

I've worn pretty much everything over the last 3 years. Adidas, Nike, Sanita, Crocs, no name shoes, etc. I haven't found anything that I love yet. Nike Shox are nice. However, they were pretty pricey and they showed considerable tear after 4 months or so. The Sanita are my most recent purchase. They are the same as Dansko, except they are not manufactured in China like Dansko. They are ok I guess. I read much hype about them. They aren't bad for the first 6 hrs or so but then they start to get a little uncomfortable. It's different for everybody. Good luck on your perfect shoe quest!

I have yet to find a pair of "nursing" shoes that work for me. I did find a pair of all white Hush Puppies at a local department store. They are the most comfy shoes I've ever tried. My feet and back appreciate it. :yeah:

I swear by Dansko- if I don't wear them my back really hurts and my legs are tired when I get home.

I'm in love with my current shoes: Saucony grid propel plus 2. :redbeathe:redbeathe:redbeathe:redbeathe:redbeathe I've suffered from sore feet in the past, but these shoes rock! I got mine at Famous Footwear, if that helps.

My Nursemates are pretty comfortable. I work with a nurse who wears Z-coils--ugliest shoes I'be ever seen--but she says they were worth every bit of the $200+ they cost.

I wore Easy Spirit for years, and they work OK.

I bought a pair of Danskos this year and wish I bought them sooner. My feet really do not hurt after work.

I have white Danskos, then when Dansko and Sanita split I bought a pair of black Sanitas. The way it was explained to me... Sanita used to make the professional clog for Dansko. There was an arguement and Sanita split and still owns the patent to the professional. So if you go to buy the Dansko professional now... it's not what you were used to a few years ago. The store I go through chose to sell Sanitas because it was what people were used to.

I LOVE my Danskos/Sanitas. I pulled my white ones out of the box and wore them to an 8 hr shift as a tech and they were GREAT. 4 years later I still wear them. I don't have random back or leg soreness if I wear them. If I wear athletic shoes I'm sore within a few hours.

I find Kicker shoes to be the best for me, they look nice , many designs yet feel like I am wearing slippers and I never have any problems with my feet.

Best shoes to use hands down.

1. MBT, barefoot technology @ $280 pair.

2. Birkenstock with the soft cork soles @ $140 pair

3. Nike shocks (some shoes vary) @ $130 pair

4. Naot with the orthopedic soles @ $155 pair

5. Newbalance running shoes, the higher the number the better: usually

Went to nursing school in Nursemates. Switched to Nike running shoes after graduation and used them for 15 years. Then, after having lower leg pain following long shifts, finally tried Dansko clogs on the recommendation of a friend. I had to learn how to walk in them (it is a little different), but I love them now and couldn't live without them!
