Freelance writing.

Where on earth do I put freelance articles on a resume? I've written a few, I'm proud of them, but I have no clue how to list them. Should I list them at all?

Under interests and hobbies? Maybe? I have had a couple novels published (in Spanish) and also done some freelance work for lots of magazines, including, most notably, Businessweek and Slate. I showed my resume to a friend who is an HR person at Lenox Hill in NYC to get her opinion and the first thing she scratched out was the mention of my freelance work. "New York is crawling with starving artists and everyone is pitching their morificecript. What you are telling me is that nursing is your fallback while you work on breaking in to the writing world," she said. This may or may not apply to you, given your location and reality. Just some food for thought.

I actually see the point. My writing (and occasional speaking) is on diabetes and mental health. I don't want to give the impression that's all I care about. Thank you, I think I'm going to remove it from my resume.

I do a little bit of free lance writing, and I'm a nurse...but I don't include it on my resume unless I am applying for a job that requires writing skills. On my resume I try to highlight the skills needed for the job...hope that helps

It does, and the writing doesn't really apply to what I'm applying for. I am super proud of it though. I will be leaving it off, unless the job specifically calls for skills in diabetes and mental health, writing, or public speaking.

I think you're right to leave it off your resume, but there may be a place to highlight your articles if you are applying for positions online. Some of the websites I've applied to have a place for you to put published material. I would definitely add it in there, or if they have a field for outside work interests.
