Grand Canyon University RN to BSN Reviews

Nursing Students School Programs Nursing Q/A

Howdy all, I bit the bullet and after much research, I decided on Grand Canyon! Wow, I did not expect BSN schools to be like used car salesmen--hounding me by emails and phone calls. Rather impressed on how Grand Canyon sort of left me alone, but at the same time kept in touch.

Commence my first class Sept 30th, excited, yet very nervous, as I'm not a big fan of school, LOL! I did extremely well on my Associate degree, graduated back in 2009 from Northern Virginia Community College. We shall see.

Would love to hear from past and present Grand Canyon RN to BSN students.

Also, how possible is it to overlap ethics and spirituality for two weeks?!! Would I be way overworking myself? Or, if possible, just overlapping one week? We plan on going home for over two weeks for the holidays and I do NOT want to have to do homework while I am there. I only get to see my family for 8 days out of the 2 weeks and I want to enjoy my time with them...as it only happens maybe once a year.

I overlapped those same 2 weeks as I was essentially doing the same thing as yourself. I will say it was busy, but very doable. The previous review of what is required is spot on. Same as previous poster - my biggest obstacle was that I am not a religious person so I struggled a bit in regards to that.

I will echo the statements provided about spirituality, the first week isn't bad. The second is a little worse and the third is/was the worst for me. The paper is the longest in the class (1500-2000 words) but the requirements in the rubric and assignment page are not straight forward. I think that it could be possible to overlap these classes but for me it wasn't worth it. My mental sanity is far to precious right now.

PrisimRN: This class isn't all that bad as long as you have some sort of background in religion. My problem has been the instructor (usual problems) and the fact that I am in no way a religious person. Writing and talking about the topic is difficult for me so it was more difficult that other papers I have written. The grief paper in week 4 (I just submitted) was one of the easiest and one of papers I really am proud of. Most of the papers are short with the paper in week 3 being the longest. The quiz in wk 1 and the personhood chart in wk 2 were super easy. The personhood chart can be completed in minutes if you did good research for the wk 1 paper.

Spirituality did steer me toward my capstone topic, and supposedly one of the best papers the professor had ever read. However, writing in that class was awful because he was such a stickler.

I think the first two weeks of spirituality can be doubled up with ethics, the last two weeks of ethics is the 3 part CLC, like PrismRN mentioned, if you're not the team leader, just submit your portion early and be done. Spirituality's first two weeks are not bad, the quiz is pretty straight forward the problem is gonna be your instructor. If you have the Reverend, he is very critical of your writing, follow the rubric and ask alot of questions, I had to do that to make sure I was on the right track and that helped. Enjoy your time off

*Warning - Blowing steam*

Posting 5 of your 6 DQ responses to more than 3 people's answers, does not fulfill the requirements.....

Just saying!

I know.....not my circus, not my monkeys. Thinking this is my anal nature kicking in.... but dang, this is the second week!

Ok.... I feel better! :sarcastic:

I think many profs dont even care when u post ur DQS...always saw a few that seemed to wait til Sunday to post 6 (very poor) responses...they did that weekly, so they must have gotten the points, or they just didnt care, lol

I have seen some post late, but I haven't had any that post all of them on the same day. I have no issues with this prof, but she definitely seems to be one that wants things done in a particular manner. Has mentioned every week how she wants your assignment titled when you hand it in. Also took points off my resume because "Each of your paragraphs begin with "I". It's not my grade....shouldn't bother me, but my analality, as my husband calls it, must be coming out. LOL

I would have loved our grades to be posted by the last 4 digits of our SSN. ;)

One just has to worry about urself. In my last class I emailed 1 student who was posting very poor, to the point of embarrassing DQ responses! She told me she knew what she was doing as she already had 4 degrees!

I think that most professors (stretching the meaning of this word) do not care when you DQ responses are posted but there are some out there that do. My leadership instructor (again stretching the meaning of this word) took points off for the first week participation because I did not follow the rules. The rules state that you must post 2 times a day for at least 3 days. Well I posted every day but I only posted twice on 2 of those days. So I posted more than the minimum and was present everyday of the week but lost points. The worst part is that she did not grade till the last minute at the end of week 2 so I lost the same points for the second week as well. This was ridiculous.

I now hold true to the post my 2 initial posts on Monday, 2 responses on Tuesday, 2 responses on Wednesday, and 2 responses on Thursday. Then I do not visit the forum at all. They want to play that game I will play. I thought it was important to be present for discussions throughout the week. Now I am only there for minutes 4 times a week. I am so done with this.
