RN to BSN online

Nursing Students Online Learning

Published

In preparation for getting a BSN, I am trying to gather information regarding online BSN programs. if you have links to what you feel is an affordable, online, no residency requirement program, please post 'em here.

One program that I came across was at Thomas Edison State College. does anyone have any information regarding their program? I was hoping to find someone that has first hand (or second hand ? ) experience with the TESC RN to BSN program as it seems to be an affordable option, which, of course, is always a bonus. from reading the catalog on their site it appears that you can use some of the EC exams to satisfy the upper-level nursing courses.

The TESC program looks pretty decent but I am looking for some feedback to any online rn to BSN program. if anyone has links to what they feel is an affordable online rn/bsn program please post the link here.

I have heard good things about UOP; the only complaint I have heard is the high tuition but I feel that UOP should remove the one year expereince requirement. So many people graduate with a BSN without ever having nursing experience from Colleges all around the country so why should it be different for ASN RN's.

The reason for the one year RN experience is due to the fact that we offer the RN to BSN in an accelerated format where clinicals are not required. We use the one year of RN as the basis for the rest of your classes. We don't feel that those who are doing "clinicals" everyday should have to be "retaught" to do them. Therefore the one year requirement. I hope that explains it.

I am nearing the end stretch at UoP. The only thing, other than the high tuition, that I have a complaint about is the lack of follow through when it is requested because of a less than wonderful instructor. Most of my instructors have been wonderful, but I have had two terrible ones. On my end of course survey I requested to be contacted about issues in the two classes yet never heard a word. In some ways it feels as though I am treated like a number. All in all I have had a good experience, but there are many other online RN- BSN schools now and I don't know if I would pick UoP again.

I also am finishing up with UOP for my BSN. It is expensive and frankly if I did not have tuition reimbursement I could not afford the program. I have had some issues with the team assignments and people not doing the work and feel there should be some allowance when this happens. Some tech issues but the tech support is great. I do not feel we should have to pay for eresource but should have the option of either using it or buying the book.

I have learned so much, I never wwould have believed it was possible and I have grown professionally according to my co-workers and manager. But if I could find a cheaper program with accreditation I would consider it.

Sparkplug, I hate team assignments. I understand the concept because we're going to have to work in teams in the real world. But in the real world a slacker isn't going to affect my getting an A.

A sticky would be nice, I bumped it a couple of times because on other boards people have asked about online RN to BSN programs and I wanted to find it to link them here.

Wow - great thread. I'm kind of new to this whole thing, but this site (allnurses.com) is just great. Wish I would have found it much sooner. Was reading this thread and just finished my ASN thru excelsior. Figured I needed to just stay on track and do BSN online. Has anyone actually completed the UOW program. Can you give me any pros/cons. Thanks

I can tell you all you need to know about UOP
