  1. The classes are 5 weeks long and very intense, you must be very disciplined to do this. They have great tech support and I learned an incredible amount of information from not only my profs but the people in my classes as well. Teamwork can be a little difficult if you get on a team where only one or two do the work and you are down to the wire. There is teamwork and individual work due on the same dates at times and it can be stressful. I loved the program and missed not taking classes but will probably restart in May for my MSN. Email me if you need more info.
  2. Thanks for the reply. Update is that I met with the VP of nursing, my unit manager and the Staff Dev. coordintator and we are negotiating a salary.
  3. A year ago I completed my BSN and was just offered a part time job in case management. They require a BSn for this position, the issue, it is a 3.00 an hour pay cut. What do you all think? The plus side is that I would get away from the bedside and at my age (50) I know I will need to move in a few years to a less physical job.
  4. I am not sure if any one can help me but here is the quest, I am finishing up my BSN, this is my last course. I need to obtain a copy of a tool that is used to evaluate teaching in a higher education setting. Not having much luck. I have emailed my local schools with no response. I am doing an internet search and am still having trouble, any help appreciated.
  5. I gotta tell you that to me this is just having nurses do your homework for you. I am all for helping people and guiding you in the direction you need to go in but I really do not think it helps to give you answers. Part of nursing is knowing where to find your resources, when you are on the unit dealing with a crisis you will not be able to post and wait online for an answer.
  6. These are great! You guys are all so smart! \A big thank you, my whole day tomorrow is writting this paper.
  7. I am doing a paper on regulatory and accrediting as it applies to the faculty role in higher education setting. I am using the SBONN and the NLNac any other ideas or websites that would be helpful would be appreciated. Thanks.
  8. Wow I never would have thought of a urine test but I would not have slept when I got home either. I am so glad this turned out ok for you.
  9. I am working on a term paper for my BSN course on a business idea. My idea is a patient advocate/consultant who will help patinets with medical forms and basically whatever they feel is needed. My second objective will be to freelance as a medical claims biller till my business is up and running. I have collected demographics on the population in a tri county area. I am currently have my executive summary and mission statement done and I have done my target audience and laid out the general plan. The problem other then the fact it needs to be a 40 page paper is numbers. Do you think if I use Excel I can do some financial numbers, balance sheet etc and then do a simple pie chart or bar graph for a visual. I really am out of my area and stuggling with this assignment. Please understand that I want to make this simple to read but informative, I am just having trouble locating information. Any helpful websites appreciated. Sparky
  10. Do any of you have any thoughts on Walden University? I just got an add from them for 50% tuition decrease and am wondering how they are for an MSN?
  11. I also am finishing up with UOP for my BSN. It is expensive and frankly if I did not have tuition reimbursement I could not afford the program. I have had some issues with the team assignments and people not doing the work and feel there should be some allowance when this happens. Some tech issues but the tech support is great. I do not feel we should have to pay for eresource but should have the option of either using it or buying the book. I have learned so much, I never wwould have believed it was possible and I have grown professionally according to my co-workers and manager. But if I could find a cheaper program with accreditation I would consider it.
  12. That may be but floor nurses are also busy and when half of them go to supper that can leave 2 nurses on the unit for 25 patients at my facility. WHen you are answering bells, doing IVP for pain and nausea and pumps are beeping it is alittle hard to answer the phone. But all that aside the patient should not be left soiled because you are angry with the floor nurse, patients first. And I am not implying that this is what you do, but prior to transfering a patient should the patient not be as comfortable as possible. I have to tell you I have worked both ER and med surg and I know both sides. I just really wanted to know how you implement change for the good of the patient and to decrease the stress of the staff. Thank you.
  13. When you are either transferring a patient from the ER or receiving one from the ER what specific behaviors demonstrate a lack of cooperation? I know we get pateints who are wet or had now orders that were not done. What is it like at your place and how do you handle it?
  14. I am in the UOP BSN program and took 2 algebras and stats online last year. It almost killed me, but to be fair I am poor in math. There is a website purplemath.com that really helped me look there and see what you think.
  15. I am working on a presentation for safe environment in LTC, some of my suggestions are, continue ed for staff on safety, use of lifts and gait belt, proper lighting, sliding doors for bathrooms, nightlights at floor level built into wall. Any ideas appreciated. Any web ref for design of ltc helpful. I have been searching and searching with little luck. I have the OSHA and DOL guidelines and some from my facility but need additonal resource.
