Grand Canyon University RN to BSN Reviews

Nursing Students School Programs Nursing Q/A

Howdy all, I bit the bullet and after much research, I decided on Grand Canyon! Wow, I did not expect BSN schools to be like used car salesmen--hounding me by emails and phone calls. Rather impressed on how Grand Canyon sort of left me alone, but at the same time kept in touch.

Commence my first class Sept 30th, excited, yet very nervous, as I'm not a big fan of school, LOL! I did extremely well on my Associate degree, graduated back in 2009 from Northern Virginia Community College. We shall see.

Would love to hear from past and present Grand Canyon RN to BSN students.

I would love to know how to choose my instructors also! Are the teacher's names already posted for us to see? How far in advance do we need to request a change?

Wouldn't that be nice? But sadly, no they're not posted anywhere. You just see who you are randomly assigned to, do some Google searching, wait until the weekend before class starts and lurk around at their Announcements and see if anything they said raises the hair on the back of your neck. If not and all seems pretty benign, just go for it. If so, however, and they've written anything that seems confusing (a hint of things to come) or just whacked like "there will be 20% point reductions for ANY APA errors" :icon_roll: , then it's time to bail and ask your advisor to switch you. Other than that, everything tokmom said joyful.png

Well, I drew a tough one for Spirituality. I NEVER lose points for content and I sure am now! I am probably going to lose my 4.0 and am pretty frustrated/irritated! Ugh.

I'd love to know who the amazing profs are for capstone, tokmom!

Sorry Momtofore! Hopefully it is still early in the class and you can stem the flow! Ouch! Do you just have Capstone left?

Spirituality is kind of deceptive. I think people expect it to be one of the easier classes, but I felt like I had to work harder in that one than any of the others, except Ethics. My Spirituality instructor was really nice and I still got an A, but the grading was definitely harsher.

My first 2 classes at GCU were with instructors that were harsh graders, and it makes for a miserable time of it. My last two classes have been with more generous graders, and I feel like I learn just as much without all that added stress. Which is why I now seek out better instructors.

Btw, Winterwhite, thx so much for the CH instructor referral, she is awesome and I am really enjoying the class because of it. This is one class I was dreading, but now find it to be no more difficult than any of the others. Although, I have a pretty good CLC group as well, and that makes a big difference too.

noodles, why was ethics one of the harder classes for you? That is my next class. I don't care for community health much.

Rainyn, did I ask you this already? what week of CH are you in? I am in week 2.

I'm in week 4. I have already submitted my part of the CLC, now just concentrating on my teaching plan and project for week 4 and 5. Then I have a week off before I start stats.

OMG, I know. I wonder if we had the same one?? It wasn't uncommon to have a MINIMUM of 5 points knocked off a paper for a small mistake! The only paper that received a decent and almost perfect grade was the compassion fatigue paper. He said it was the best he had ever read. I seriously took that comment to heart, because I was chopped off at the knees with every other paper!

Ethics was one of the more interesting classes, but I was not a fan of the 2 part CLC. It is worth 550/1000 points, so if you have a bad group it can really impact your grade. Aside from that, it wasn't so bad.
