Members are discussing the accreditation and acceptance of BSN and MSN degrees from GCU in different states, particularly focusing on the requirement of a preceptorship for BSN programs. There are concerns about certain states not accepting GCU BSN degrees, while others share experiences with the capstone course and offer tips for scholarly activities. Additionally, there is mention of GCU transitioning back to a non-profit status and the impact of this change on students.
Howdy all, I bit the bullet and after much research, I decided on Grand Canyon! Wow, I did not expect BSN schools to be like used car salesmen--hounding me by emails and phone calls. Rather impressed on how Grand Canyon sort of left me alone, but at the same time kept in touch.
Commence my first class Sept 30th, excited, yet very nervous, as I'm not a big fan of school, LOL! I did extremely well on my Associate degree, graduated back in 2009 from Northern Virginia Community College. We shall see.
Would love to hear from past and present Grand Canyon RN to BSN students.
Thanks!! What is Spirituality and Ethical? Could I take those together too?
I wouldn't double those two classes. Spirituality is pretty paper heavy and Ethics has a 2 part CLC. Spirituality and Leadership would be my ideal classes to double because neither has a CLC and the DQs aren't too bad.
Does anyone have an instructor for Community Health that they loved? I will have to double up again for 3-4 weeks to get the instructor I want, so I am looking for other options. I have heard a lot of horror stories about instructors for this class, so I need some good advice on who to take or avoid. Please PM me if you have any suggestions.
I am in community Health right now and stressing a wee bit about this final project. Anyone there, tokmom, prism, whiterwhite, anyone? who has any ideas? I just started a new job and do not want to focus my project at my work. Any other suggestions? Thank you:nailbiting:
Is there a daycare near by? A Girl Scout troop? Those are always good for teaching on handwashing. Do you belong to a church? You could hit up the youth group (sunscreen/covering-up to avoid melanoma), or the Bible Study group (typically older folks, teach about flu shots)?

How can you pick your instructor and how do you know who teaches what? I really need to know this info!!
Go to YouTube and type in HLT 362V in the search bar, and look for the ones by tina. She's a Stats instructor @ GCU and has given at least a little help on how to do the excel spreadsheets. Be careful though, I think I remember a couple of her videos being old and not the current assignments.Other than that, sadly, you're stuck with the beloved workbook. I would do *every*single* practice exercise (hide those answers!), then check my work, see which ones I got wrong, try to figure out WHY I got it wrong, and then move on to the real problems. Luckily the real questions mimick the practice ones almost indentically so that's a little comforting.
I'm so sorry, I wish there was more out there, it's just a matter of diving in, getting tutor help, asking instructor questions (although mine was of ZERO help), and hanging on for dear life until day 35!
Google is your friend. There is another program that is ok for a few questions if you get stuck. It's called Wolfram Alpha and will walk you through equations. It's not good on very many, but keep it in your back pocket. I googled everything I could and also pre-read before class from idiot and dummy books. My husband was my tutor, and got me through this class. He explained things in a way I understood. I guess he didn't want a lunatic for a wife!

You need to empty your inbox and your sent box to receive PM's!

Ok on it!
I would love to know how to choose my instructors also! Are the teacher's names already posted for us to see? How far in advance do we need to request a change?
Both have a CLC of sorts. Ethics has a 2 parter CLC and spirituality has a project where you trade papers and edit and critique another student's rough draft, which really isn't rough because the teacher grades as well.
So yeah, it's doable, but you will be busy.

I didn't have the same project as you, as they switched around some of the assignments.

Talk to your advisor and have them switch you to certain instructors. It isn't any guarantee they are available, so have a plan B in mind. Some may not be instructing for weeks and some maybe available in a week or two. In my opinion, plan B may be just fine for most classes, but for the capstone there are two amazing prof's that rock in their classroom. I sat out for 2 weeks for one of them and then she wasn't available when the time came, so they put me in a random class.
The instructor had some strict rules on APA, point deduction, and tii scores and very little direction on a very paper heavy class. The other professor that a friend had was amazing. VERY organized and funny. She made the entire class less painful.
So just be aware. You can choose, but don't choose too far in advance (weeks and months) because that person may not even be teaching.
