Grand Canyon University RN to BSN Reviews

Nursing Students School Programs Nursing Q/A

Howdy all, I bit the bullet and after much research, I decided on Grand Canyon! Wow, I did not expect BSN schools to be like used car salesmen--hounding me by emails and phone calls. Rather impressed on how Grand Canyon sort of left me alone, but at the same time kept in touch.

Commence my first class Sept 30th, excited, yet very nervous, as I'm not a big fan of school, LOL! I did extremely well on my Associate degree, graduated back in 2009 from Northern Virginia Community College. We shall see.

Would love to hear from past and present Grand Canyon RN to BSN students.

I wish I could remember the assignment better. They have also changed some of the assignments throughout the process of making it through the program. My mind tends to forget the class and the assignment shortly after I am done with the class.

I know what you mean, can hardly remember 5 weeks ago!

I can't always remember 5 hours ago. Ask the teacher. Do the best you can.

u can't list profs names...so the admin mods will soon come by and make them dissappear. Didn't have to do that class, so can't help u out there

I hope your night gets better. I have had those days.... Right now I am going back and forth on what the stupid diabetes paper and powerpoint are really asking of me. I asked the teacher for clarification, and she made me slightly more confused.

This is patho, correct? That class seems like a blur to me. What is your problem?

Yeah, my night got a lot better. I went to bed instead of spinning my wheels.

Thank you for your responses, says I need to have 15 posts before I can use PM. I too spent the day tweaking a paper that isn't even at the tweaking point. Grrr. Work the next two so maybe a shorter deadline will produce better results! Ha! I'm working on the adolescent health assessment. Is it as straightforward as it seems, just fill in the blanks and add the nursing diagnosis with rationale. Seems like I'm missing something!

That is what I remember, but like JRich says, they have changed some of the coursework around. The health assessments seemed pretty straight forward, just busy.

Yes patho. Identify a research or evidence-based article that focuses comprehensively on a specific intervention or new diagnostic tool for the treatment of diabetes in adults or children.

In a paper of 750-1,000 words, summarize the main idea of the research findings for a specific patient population. Research must include clinical findings that are current, thorough, and relevant to diabetes and the nursing practice.

So I didn't know if it needed to be a new treatment as well. When I asked my teacher for clarification she said we need to also compare it to an older one. The rubric doesn't say that. I emailed the library and asked for some assistance. They somewhat helped to find new articles....

Did you get that part of the assignment done at least? Oh, do you remember where to go to order the nursing pin. I asked my student advisor and she had no clue what I was talking about.

And therein lies my dilemma for nearly e v e r y assignment/rubric I read. And when you ask (as you did), you now get more work added on that wasn't even mentioned before. How do they grade that, I wonder, when there's no spot for it on the rubric? And do ppl who don't do it get marked off? I don't think so, because it's not on the rubric. Grrrr. I tend to pick the directions apart word by word, so my interpretation of that assignment is to pick an article that focuses on either a specific intervention (doesn't say the intervention itself needs to be new, just that the clinical findings you are summarizing are current), OR, a new diagnostic tool.

But, don't listen to me, I never seem to think what they think and then when I ask I'm worse off than before! :banghead:

This is exactly what I asked her to clarify. I was thinking the same as you. So I asked and she gave me more to do, and she didn't totally clarify what I asked.

That was an oops, I definitely won't do it in the future. :) Thanks for the info!

Instructors are all different aren't they and they all interpret their rules and regs as they choose.
