Grand Canyon University RN to BSN Reviews

Nursing Students School Programs Nursing Q/A

Howdy all, I bit the bullet and after much research, I decided on Grand Canyon! Wow, I did not expect BSN schools to be like used car salesmen--hounding me by emails and phone calls. Rather impressed on how Grand Canyon sort of left me alone, but at the same time kept in touch.

Commence my first class Sept 30th, excited, yet very nervous, as I'm not a big fan of school, LOL! I did extremely well on my Associate degree, graduated back in 2009 from Northern Virginia Community College. We shall see.

Would love to hear from past and present Grand Canyon RN to BSN students.

Doing great...I'm still working on my 15 posts as well, lol! I'm seriously detesting this Adolescent Health History! When I get PM privileges I will be interested in more information...and I have one myself, and I avoided that instructor by the skin of my chin-y chin chin!!! :sorry:

Hi feliciarn

I think all of us are doing ok? Is that right fellow Lopes?

So far so good! I'm getting pretty dang used to writing essays and more and more familiar with APA. I don't even use PERRLA anymore and I'm only in my 2nd class. This class was busier than the last but most of these essays are just typing the content from the family interviews/VARK results so I don't have to think TOO hard about em lol. Thanks tokmom for helping us all keep our sanity.

I really like that I'm fixing to cross my 2nd class of my list soon. To me the 5 week classes are worth the extra work and getting closer to that degree sooner. I also like that it is mostly theory. As much as I hate essays I don't want to be reading/studying tons of chapters then setting aside a 20 minute time period to take a quiz or test (nearly impossible when you don't have anyone to keep your kids from interrupting you).

@Winterwhite 28, I can't wait myself to get PM privileges lol  I have not started GCU yet but I will be soon after my transcripts get reviewed. I'm scared though lol

why not use PERRLA if you have it....it keeps the database, so you can use it for other papers. problem I ran into last class--was my desktop bit the dust, lol and I was doing the groups reference page..duh!! I wish ones refs were saved up in the cloud, so it would work on my laptop!! There are a fe wother free ones as well.

I have had pretty good profs, can't complain..Some mark fairly fast, some wait til Sunday....Soem have provided feedback, some very little. Online classroom is very well laid out and easy to follow. The discussions are pretty boring and bland.....no 1 states anythign except the the obvious,lol.."great post best, that is soo brilliant" "I could not agre with you more" blah blah blah. I feel bad for the profs reading them. My last prof in Research was awesome..she actually called out a few about that and in a few of her responses she asked what that person had wrote had to do with the topic.

@flames9_RN, you guys have been so very helpful in me making my decision to attend GCU. It is great to come across GOOD instructors that motivate you, teach you, and make you want to do all the assignments, and thats what I hope I get. This will be my first time doing online classes so it will be a little hard for me to get the hang of things and having an instructor that doesn't really care about their students success is and well being is not the instructor i ever want lol

I have never gotten the feeling that they did NOT care about my success. If i want more feedback--I would just ask. And like 1 prof stated--do not wait until Sunday to ask questions about an assignment, lol

Withonline classes, 1 has to find ur own motivation to do the assignments, lol I tend to put the papers off till the end, but that is me! I try and complete the DQ early, so I can relax

@Flames, great advice but I not sure if I can follow your leave the papers tip the end LOL as it takes me days just to come up with the introduction and then hours for the conclusion lol As you can see I just love the idea of having to write so many papers, it just comes natural to me lol NOT!!!!:dead:

Ensureu pay attention the Rubrik, an dmakes ure you cover what is on it.

@Flames will do, Thanks:up:

I agree, the assignment will have the bones of your paper but the rubric has all of the details. I got rushed once and missed points by not looking at the rubric prior to uploading. Always, always, always cite your sources. Especially in the group project (CLC). I did the editing in one, and randomly picked here and there from what had been turned in (checking to make sure of plagiarism)...I just put it in google, had an immediate hit...it was nearly verbatim, a few synonym changes and that was it, I was sick to my stomach (and I had complemented her previously on her ability to write, she took the complement and never said a word!). I threw in a citation and I do not think anyone was the wiser, including her. I don't know if I am the only one but I DETEST CLC!!! I have only been in 3 classes but I have horror stories with each one!

why not use PERRLA if you have it....it keeps the database, so you can use it for other papers. problem I ran into last class--was my desktop bit the dust, lol and I was doing the groups reference page..duh!! I wish ones refs were saved up in the cloud, so it would work on my laptop!! There are a fe wother free ones as well.

I probably just need a PERRLA tutorial lol. Maybe mine runs slow or I am just impatient because I feel I can type faster than going through all the PERRLA fields. I also am getting pretty familiar with how a journal article is referenced. If I want to use something already referenced I just go open that essay and copy and paste. I think I'm selecting the wrong selections at times also because sometimes it doesn't have the issue number etc. User error lol. I always save my stuff to a USB and numerous other places. I'm paranoid about losing my stuff!!!
