Grand Canyon RN-BSN - page 353
The only thread I see is 5-7 yrs old and focuses on religion. Is there any updated information? I have been in heavy contact with them and am looking at taking their RN-BSN program. I work with a... Read More
May 29Quote from IlikelettersSTEER clear of the spiritual class. My instructor was TOUGH. lots of philosophical back and forth. Not something I was into at all.Hi -
Does anyone have feedback on these 3 classes:
NRS-410V Pathophysiology and Nursing Management of Clients' Health
NRS-440VN Trends and Issues in Today's Health Care
PHI-413V Ethical and Spiritual Decision Making in Health Care
I have to take two of them together, which two are better to take together (require less time)? As of right now I am scheduled to take PHI-413 alone and the other two together, but I've been taking two at a time and I feel like I should just keep the momentum going and take 410 or 440 with it, unless they each have pretty significant loads. I've done really well with two at a time so far, have a 4.0, but I put in way more work than what they say it should take.
Thanks for any advice!
May 29Quote from NayNaeRNIt's required, so can't steer clear of it Can you pm me your instructor's name? I think I am going to take this one by itself so I don't have any distractions.STEER clear of the spiritual class. My instructor was TOUGH. lots of philosophical back and forth. May 29Quote from Flames9_RNDo you mean changed in terms of content or just the name? Patho is also my strength, so it sounds like I should keep Trends and Patho together. I think I am going to do them next so that I only have the one class as I wind down. What is the Trends class about?I think the 2 classes most compalin about are Stats..and the spirituality class....I believe the PHI 413 has changed since I took it.(yes used to be called HLT310)...the other 2 are very doable together in my opinion
May 29Quote from 4mranchSo Trends and Patho both have group projects? Ugh. I've been the one to do my group projects so far in every class other one. But I've done it, so I can keep doing it. Just have to plan my time out right. What is covered in Trends?Ilikeletters, I would agree, you could probably do Trends and Patho together. Yes, both have group projects, and Patho only has one DQ per week, but don't be fooled - you will need more than a couple of paragraphs to answer it. They are case studies. I found the spirituality class to be challenging, and I did learn a lot from that class. If you have been doing 2 classes at a time then you should be able to continue that path, just realize that trends and patho are not lightweight classes - you will be doing A Lot of writing.
May 29There were papers on the evolution of nursing care, the IOM report, reflections on your nursing practice, and the group project was on the pros and cons of continuing education. The group project in this class was my last one (yay!), and I had the best group out of all the group projects throughout the year. The instructor in this class graded more harshly in regards to APA formating. She had a teaching assistant working with her and much of the harshness was from her (in my opinion). I had not had any point deductions in any other class as far as APA went. She was also very strict on the word count - could only go 10% over the word limit. She did provide excellent feedback on your papers, which is appreciated so you know where you need to improve.

I wonder if we had the same person. I struggled with that class.
Aug 12Quote from tokmombelieve the class has changed since you and I took it.....believe some "ethics" were added to it....I wonder if we had the same person. I struggled with that class.
Aug 12They combined the spirituality class and the ethics class into one 5 week class. This allowed the final Capstone class to be 10 weeks, but not require you to go an additional 5 weeks longer in the program.
Aug 13Yes that is true. They have combined and it is now ethics and spirituality. I just took that class a few months ago. It has been my least favorite class of the program so far. I'm surprised I managed to maintain my GPA. It is doable, I just struggled with regurgitating the material into papers... and per usual the rubrics are insanely vague. Only trends and capstone to go and I'm done!
