Grand Canyon RN-BSN

Published

Is there any updated information? I have been in heavy contact with them and am looking at taking their RN-BSN program. I work with a GCU grad and she has nothing but positive things to say, but I want more opinions. ?

Any pro's and cons? Thankfully the only class I'm missing is stats and that is offered in the actual BSN program. I'm a bit nervous as my algebra skills are way old. If anyone took this class, do you have any advice?

Rob,

The body of the final capstone are the papers you are writing. The headings are literally the names of the papers.

The waters get muddy when one has to blend the papers, because they all have their own beginning, middle and end. You have to edit them to make them flow, or it is choppy and disjointed.

I literally printed them out so I had a hard copy I could edit with a pen. I got tired of scrolling on the computer. I made my husband read it a hundred times too, lol.

I think I have a handle on it now. I was just trying to understand the scope of the assignment before break because the instructor will not be around for questions during this time. And the instructor does not seem to want to be helpful. I just keep telling myself, "Almost done, Almost done....."

Does it make sense now?

Yes I think I have it. Currently I am working on week two assignments. The literature review is a killer. I have 6 more articles to review and I am nearly to 2700 words. The limit of 2000 words max is unrealistic. I am glad my instructor states that content is more important than word count.

28 more days and I am done!!!!!!

Same here.... OMG I am so over reading statistics! LOL :wacky:

I asked my instructor and she stated the same thing - content is more important than word count. That word count is redic in doing reviews on 15 articles!

I'm counting down myself.... Wonder if we can pop some cyber champagne when we are done Rob?

Hey, for our last class/big writing project, I think some have mentioned that a couple of the other classes can be helpful towards it. I know one was into to research; was trends the other one?

I think nursing research is the only class that prepares you for the capstone. In that class I developed my research question (PICOT) and found all of my necessary references.

Rob is correct - Research is the class that can help for the Capstone class. I on the other hand was a doofus and did not have a PICO that I could use so had to start from scratch. I did have my articles chosen before the class started so that helped tremendously.

Yeah and the entire paper isn't suppose to be more than 5000 words or something like that? Totally unrealistic, IMO.

How is it going?

So there was a big uproar in the Questions to the Instructor forum today in my capstone class. Someone asked if they could use work from each weekly module when putting together the final project. I am thinking to myself Duh, each week builds the finished project”. Then the instructor states that using our previous work for the final project is considered plagiarism. Make sure everything is cited correctly for the final project. I am sitting here think now SAAAAYYYYY what?”

Everyone is up in arms and no clarification from the instructor as of yet. I am really nervous now. I can't tell if I am nervous about the recent developments or the instructors poor word usage and spelling in her response. Anyone else come across this? I will keep everyone informed.

Wth?? That's how we have all done the final!

You aren't suppose to use ANY of the papers?

She responded this morning to a question that asked this and of course the response is equally as vague. She said that as we progress we will see that we can't simply cut and paste.

Of course there will be editing needed so that all modules will flow together. I now have an facilitator that I would not suggest for the capstone. Got my first assignments back with no feedback. Not even the graded assignments attached.

Just 3 more weeks......
