Nursing Students Online Learning

This is not really an informative thread I guess, but here it goes. I have been a member her for quite a few years, I think my profile says 2004, but it was before that b/c I was a member here before that but I forgot my old username. And, eventhough I have quite a few issues with it AN, is wat led me to my current path, at Excelsior. Before AN I don't think I had ever even heard of EC.

Anyway, to my point, in all of the time I spent here I've seen a lot of distance students come and go. Some, some stayed at EC but just faded away from ere, some just graduated and left the DL board (CONGRATS to all of them btw), some graduated and left AN completely, and some dropped out and choose a different path and left AN. This also goes for the other DL programs, like Deaconess.

Now, I spend a lot of time just coming to the board and looking. Most of the time I don't have the time to post, sometimes I just like to observe. But, I've noticed that I just don't see the types of posts tat I used to. Or maybe it's just me.

Okay, now really on to my point. I know that this at times can make students feel alone (I know I do). I mean I don't anyone to study with, but just "knowing" who your classmates are is nice. Now there is always EPN for EC students, but I personally don't care for it much (too much to deal with with pop ups and all), and therefore, don't go on it unless I'm am looking for a specific answer (which I usually don't find).

So this thread is just for us all to chime in, so everyone knows they are not alone in our own element of AN so to speak.

I encourage everyone of us to chime in and keep everyone aware of your progress every now and then.

You won't have to do IVs on patients at the CPNE. (Darnit! LOL! I'm really good at them!!)

Has anyone taken the workshop that is offered for the CPNE? Did you find it helpful and worth the $?

I'm a 2 year LPN in LTC and enrolled in EC first test 4/11....I was pondering the idea of working part-time in med/surg for experience. I live in WA state so I have to gather 200 hours of preceptorship. I can do it where I work but would rather have the hospital experience to move forward.

Sounds like a smart plan to me! :)

Hi to all, when i was reading this I felt a little guilty...when I checked AN, I found a note that said that I haven't posted a comment or thread fro some weeks. The truth of the matter is that I do check the site, but not always have the time to drop down a few lines. However, I must say that this website was a real blessing to me cause hwile reading, I was filled with encouragement to try. In fact, when I called Excelsior the first time, one of the Admission personell told me that I am not eligible for the course and that was really upsetting. My husband had this great idea to call back and another lady picked up and she said to fax the credentials and everything and she just gave me the news that I was hoping for. Now I am in the Applying phase, so all my transcripts are to be mailed from Malta (that is were I am coming from) and then I start to read for some of the electives or whatever I can start.

Actually I am really excited to be starting "school" again. After some years taking care of two toddlers, you need a break and that is what excelsior means to me.

So, I just thank everyone for giving his little info cause it helps others by far.

Everyone, stay blessed and wish you the best....

So are you starting from scratch (LPN) or do you already have some of the electives done? I am just an LPN with no electives. Am sending my application when I get my transcripts from LPN (next week I hope).

I am one that hasn't posted much lately. Passed CPNE in March 07 with no repeats. Took NCLEX in August----passed with 75 questions. Now I'm enrolled in the EC BSN program and there is just so much to do with work and school.

For those of you on this road, it is worth all the nerves and hard work!!! It took me 3 years to do the LPN-RN thru EC. Looking back there were times I wanted to give up and times I felt sure I couldn't do this. Just keep going forward. You won't be sorry.

I'm waiting for my CPNE date.

Hi, I've been an LPN for 2 years, currently working in home health. I enrolled in Excelsior a year ago but for financial/time reasons am taking my first exam (NC1) next week! I have a BA in English and Excelsior took most of my GenEd credits, yay!! I'm interested in seeing how it goes. :heartbeat

i dont know what so i am currently enrolled with excellsior using college network study material i just failed my test i need encouragement!

Look on E-bay and find Lisa Arrends NC 1-7 notes. Very helpful and straight to the point. I used her notes and the study guide. Passed all NC test first time around and I am scheduled for CPNE in May. I had horrible test anxiety in traditional nursing school (failed the third semester of ADN program). Thought I was just stupid. Found Excelsior and I am almost done. Make a daily study schedule and stick to a routine. This is a very do-able program, don't get discouraged. Good luck Hope this helps. You may want to ask ask around this site about the College Network Program, I have heard mixed reviews.
