Rose_Queen, that thread is locked.

I thought it was because it started to degenerate into accusations of racism between posters, but I could be wrong.

One poster stated she felt the situation might different if the pt was caucasian.

Another poster responded by cruelly attacking and mocking Jahi's family and related this case to allegations of racial bias toward Thomas Duncan in Dallas calling it reverse racism.

These posters' comments had no bearing on that discussion. I am glad it was closed before it got out of hand any further.

I just started reading the threads and I don't even know what to say other than wow.. That poor girl. And the other kids. And the people footing the bill... I could go on.

Can someone explain though who is the "hairdresser" and how does he/she play a part? I read through most of one of the later threads but only saw comments on this person. Just curious about who else is playing a part in this tragedy.

I don't think race is a factor in this at all. IIRC, about 10 years ago we had a similar controversy (but different in that this patient was actually not brain dead, only in a vegetative state). Spouse wanted to remove artificial feeding, family disagreed, big media circus ensued. She was white. She was NOT declared brain dead. In fact, IIRC, she was breathing on her own. Many, many people still believed "heroic" measured should be removed, and in the end, I believe they were, and she passed peacefully, the way she had expressed to her husband she would have wanted in that exact situation.

I think the problem here is desperate PARENTS. This is a CHILD. No parent wants to give up on their child, and they are grasping at every little straw they can to keep up that hope that she may be that miracle people believe happens (there are always these 'stories' of so and so's uncle's best friend's sister's best friend's grandma's sister-in-law's ex-husband that woke up from a 40 year coma). It's sad, my heart breaks for the family. I wish them peace.

Are you referring to the case of Terri Schindler Schiavo, the patient who died in 2005 after tube feedings and enteral fluids were stopped?

I do find it interesting that her body isn't decaying in the way brain dead patients generally do, even with life support. She definitely does seem to be a case for the books.
