Interview appointment, no interview??

Hello I just want to share my experience from today. I got a call two days ago from a potential employer and we set up an interview for today. I went in 15 minutes early, as I have always been advised to do. I waited and was not seen, I waited 2 hours and 45 minutes at the lobby of the ALF. The receptionist called at least a couple of times, maybe three. My "appointment" was for 11:30, and someone (whomever was supposed to see me at that point since HR lady was MIA) said they had me for 12:00. Mind you this was said at 12:30 when "she" would be "right down to see me" another hour and receptionist called "I have some here that has been waiting for an interview for two hours". Again some excuse about how HR had not provided them with my resume and application and whomever would be "right with me" after another half hour I had honestly had enough. I politely told the receptionist that it seemed to be a bad time and I was just going to leave. She said she would have HR call me. I left and was honestly very angry and even felt humiliated. I cried in the car of how angry I was. It sucks because I was able to see a lot of residents and staff interact with each other and everyone seemed so happy and friendly. I even got to speak to a resident tha told me how satisfied she is with the care provided and how wonderful of a facility it is. She described it as somewhere I would love to work. But an appointment was scheduled for me and nobody could even come out to tell me they could not see me today for an interview. Maybe I am being a little emotional and not understanding about issues coming up like they do in nursing. But seriously it wasn't just an hour I was waiting. I waited for nearly three! The least someone could do is have the decency to come tell me they need to Reschedule. I don't expect them to call me back after this. Has anyone had an experience similar to this? I can't help but feel a little down since I am so ready to work and this is one of my first experiences during my job hunt. Sorry for any grammar or spelling errors. Thank you for your replies.

I had a similar experience about 30 years ago in Scottsdale AZ. Same thing, showed up early for an interview, receptionist kept calling nursing office. No one ever came to interview. I stopped by the nursing office on my way out to let them know what I thought, how terrible that they could not find anyone to come interview me. Still do not think much of this hospital chain.

Exactly, first impressions are just as important to a potential employee. And 30 years later you still remember. How unprofessional.

I would write them a letter & or call the person that was supposed to interview you. How awful that you were so upset you cried in your car. Let them know how you were treated.

I would give them one more chance. Who knows what went down and you do have time on your hands. However, only one more chance.

I was polite while leaving just in case but I honestly don't know how to feel about calling back. I may just reply to the email that HR sent me letting them know (although I'm sure they know) what happened and see where it goes from there. Let's see how it all turns out.

When I interviewed at an ALF I got the first impression that you did (not how they treated me for an interview, but the facility in general). The residents looked happy and well cared for, they interacted well with each other and even the staff seemed bubbly, the place was very clean, looked like a five star hotel.....at 2pm on a Tuesday....things can look much different after normal 'business hours' (the happy look disappeared when the likelihood of state showing up passed). I was so excited to work with people who seemed to love their jobs and had good hopes for the future....it was the absolute worst job I have ever worked in my entire life. I would break out in hives every day I went to work and finally quit after less than a year. The one positive think that place did for me was light a fire under my ass to go back to school so that I would have better opportunities in the future.

If you are still looking for a job and really want to give this place a shot, then it wouldn't hurt but honestly, things aren't always how they appear and if a valid, believable reason isn't offered as to why you were pretty much stood up, I would think hard before accepting an offer if one does take place down the road.

Thank you for your answer. Yes I don't really see myself contacting them. I guess I see it as me having low dignity. I already got a job offer in corrections. However it doesn't start for about a month and I am honestly intimidated because I am a brand new nurse and would hate to mess up in any way. I will keep looking until that job starts I gues.

One of the nurses I worked with left med/surg for corrections. She stayed on the hospital unit as PRN, and one night I asked her how she liked corrections. She said she got more respect there than she did at the hospital! I hope it works out well for you there.

OP - any remote chance that someone was playing a mean, cruel trick on you?

One of the nurses I worked with left med/surg for corrections. She stayed on the hospital unit as PRN, and one night I asked her how she liked corrections. She said she got more respect there than she did at the hospital! I hope it works out well for you there.

Yes, I know I waited too long. But I highly doubt that anyone would try to play a trick on me. I don't know anyone there And it's a bit far from my home and school. I honestly just don't know what the problem was.
