No phone call or email one week after interview

Nurses Job Hunt

Published

I had GREAT three interviews with a cancer clinic. I interviewed with the Doctor, Nurse Practitioner, and HR rep and HR rep told me to expect to hear from her regarding job offer. A week has gone by with no phone call or no email. I don't get it. Does it really take that long to figure out if candidate is right for the job? They were very fast last week with setting up the interviews. The Nurse Practitioner I interviewed with even gave me her phone number and email to contact her. Should I call or email, wait longer, or write off job? Wouldn't HR call you to tell you either way if you got job or not?

A week or more is pretty standard. I had a similar experience.. quick interview set up/process, then a week to get the offer.

It wouldn't be out of line to give one follow up call at this point

If they have other candidates to interview, they're not always scheduled on the same day as your interview. Sometimes interviews are conducted over a week or so, depending on the availability of candidates and staff. I would touch base with your point of contact this coming week, just to keep the lines open. :) Good luck!

I'd sent a polite email thanking them for the opportunity to interview, and ask when you can expect to hear their decision.

Yeah it seemed odd that they would give me their contact info if they weren't interested in me. The interview process went much quicker compared to offer part. The wait is killer :/

No, not always...

I've only been called by HR twice in the past 16 years with notification that the job was offered to someone else. Keep in mind I've interviewed for numerous positions over those years.

It is customary for HR to telephone you if they're offering you a position, but they typically go radio silent when they've offered it to another candidate.
