Wow, just counted the job applications I have verification for in my e-mail. 665 jobs since March. That's just the ones I have received verification from, and ones from my sent folder (Craigslist and such). Many sites don't even send a confirmation (also didn't count the rejection e-mails). I estimate I've applied for well over 800 now. Sigh.

RunBaby, wow! I felt like applying for a job IS a full time job, but that sounds like a record!

I'm wondering if Cali is different than here. Here, the "norm" is to apply online. Upload the resume, fill out the application, answer a bunch of questions, hit submit. Them within seconds, the application status changes to "no longer under consideration", Have you noticed that there? So frustrating! I started taking my resume in person. Nursing school said not to do that, but it's the only way around here to beat the computer generated rejections and at least have a chance at a human seeing the application. It worked for me, I got a job.

I remember that you had a couple of interviews this week...what happened? Wishing you luck!

It didn't take long for me to get disgusted with the online waste of time and effort. I decided to go back to my tried and true method of going in person. When I can no longer obtain employment by going in person, then I guess I will stop seeking employment altogether, which, I am sure, will make someone, somewhere happy.

That's how it is here in NC as soon as you click no for do you have 6 months experience as a RN when you press submit the status is automatically not selected

Thanks. I had a big interview Monday with Kaiser, and I just got the rejection e-mails for the 3 positions that were open within the department.

I think you guys are right about having to go in person. Seems like some get offended by it, others like it. Since the online method doesn't seem to be working very well, might be time to risk offending some HR departments and managers. I've only been licensed for 2 months (today, actually), but it still feels like something more should be working out more. I'm working a couple of agency positions, and we can pay the bills right now with it, but it's definitely not what I want to be doing right now. Plus, one of the contracts with the agency is about to end, so the work through them will slow down. I'm hoping at least some flu clinics will work out this season.

RunBaby, out here Kaiser won't consider a new grad at all. Did you go on the interview that requires you to stay with your brother as well?

The NM and all of the nurses that comprised the panel that I interviewed with were surprised that applications go automatically into the 'not being considered' bin when doing online applications. They had no idea that applications were not getting to them. If you can get your resume into the hands of an NM, it's better than HR! Have you spoken to any of your preceptors from any clinicals? They may be able to pull for you to get an interview if there are open positions.

I admire your perseverance RunBabyRN! That really sucks to put in so much effort and not get anything. I know how time consuming putting in applications are. I could only apply electronically at 2 places at a time b/c they annoyed and frustrated me.

Anyway, just out of curiosity, when did you graduated? have you thought of applying to out of states, like the nurse-shortage states: ND, SD, NC, SC, VT, WY, WI, etc? They might be more willing to train new nurses than other states.

There are smaller regional hospitals that may be interested in hiring new grads. Maybe you can give them a try.

In general, Kaiser won't consider new grads, but due to a labor negotiations stipulation, they've had to create a new grad program with a few slots here and there. The interview was for one of these. It's the one that was near my brother.

I'm surprised NMs didn't realize that. I would have assumed they'd know this. Seems to be pretty common knowledge.

I graduated in May. I don't have the luxury of moving, or I would have already. Being a mom with a husband with his own business, I need to stay close to home. I'm applying hours away from home, and am willing to be gone for part of the week if needed, but I can't go much further than that. I'm applying to all of those smaller rural hospitals I can find, and I'm following every tiny lead I get.

It's hard to move around if you have a family with children. I'm single and don't have much obligations so I could freely move around.
