Life is beautiful if one has his/her life centered on God

Nurses Spirituality

Published

Being a born again believer in The Lord Jesus Christ, has been good for me. I am a nurse, and every nurse may at some time or other experienced the frustrations, stresses, dissatisfaction, that is experienced by many nurses. Despite it all, I just love nursing. I love to see when my intervention make someone happy. I love to make patient or people in general feel important. When I smile to people, i love the way they respond. The joy I see on their faces makes it very rewarding, even when it seemed that they are angry. I have come to understand how to treat others with kindness even when they may be rude or unfriendly. You may ask, Why? My relationship with the Lord has made it all possible. I just finished studying for my Bachelors Science in Nursing, and I must say, without my solid foundation. I would have been pulling my hair out. I remained positive, while at the same time encouraged other nurses to look on the bright side. I firmly believe, having a relationship with The Lord Jesus Christ will make one a better nurse, because of the love, compassion, empathy, understanding, calmness, and seeing people as unique human beings. All these can be yours when one accepts the Lord in ones life. You want to be a better nurse? Trust in the Lord!

I totally agree with you. I definitely will never ever want OP to be my nurse. HOwever, I appreciate the fact that she is outspoken about her beliefs. I have had bad experience with Christian fundamentalists. After a false friendship with a Christian who condemned me because of my sexual orientation, I have sworn that I would never be friend with a fundamentalist. When Christians expose their belief publicly, I can avoid them.

I wish as a patient I can check a nurse's belief before I give her my consent to take care of me. The last thing I want when I am sick is to put up with their good news.

How would you feel if the reverse were allowed? I'll bet there are plenty of hardcore fundamentalist nurses who would prefer to have nothing to do with patients who are gay.

Being a believer in Christ should help anyone, who truly is one, become a better nurse. Why? because Christ's teachings can be related to nursing very strongly. Love, compassion, patience, kindness, mercy, and joyful are all characteristics that nurses should have which are exactly the teachings that Christ left us. People are so quick to jump and claim that religion does not make one a better person but let me remind you that the person who wrote this post did not say that "religion" makes him/her a better person, the post says that Christ has. Let me also remind everyone that God is not a religion, religion is man-made whereas God is not. The Lord is the creator so it ridicilous to mix religion with The Creator.

Such a condescending statement.

Growing up in a Buddhist family, I have seen many relatives who don't practice rituals. They are compassionate and productive people of society. Jesus absolutely does not factor in their lives.

Like I said, I despise Christian fundamentalists with a passion. I actually think that those people are doing me a big favor. I don't need people with such attitude taking care of me. It's that simple to me: voice your opinion and leave me alone. The moment they try to proselytize me when they know my message, I will fight back.

Insert the musical theme from The Twilight Zone to complete this rant.

I don't recall that being said at all. I think Guyna was giving her personal experience. And why are you so defensive about it anyway? Actually, seeing that this is a post about spirituality and Christianity, if you have an issue with it ( you obviously do ) why are you even on here??

How do these threads keep getting resurrected? Must be the work of the Lord... 3 years old and the last replay before britt85w was 1 1/2 years ago. 3 Posts, 2 in religious threads? both vocally attack non-believers. Me thinks someone came he to proselytize?

Furthermore, they all read and end the exact same way, Believers vs non-believers or those not of the same faith. :cat:

Spirituality and Christianity (insert any religion here) are not synonymous.

(Response to first post after OP--somehow "quote" function didn't work) OP specifically stated that "I firmly BELIEVE, having a relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ will make one a better nurse." Why is it that freedom of speech is OK in any area except religion? OP is free both to believe whatever s/he believes and to state the same. Why do people feel compelled to get their backs up about anything religious or spiritual? If you have an opposing view, that's fine. But asserting that one person's belief is "presumptuous" is itself presumptuous--you are presuming that your view is more valid than his/hers. Don't be the pot calling the kettle black.

it's easy for you to say. I guess you are not a minority. Picture yourself dealing with Christians disrupting my day with family with preaching. You will understand why I express such strong resentment.

Perhaps you can explain to me why people get nasty when they find out i am a pagan. I don't try to cram my spiritual beliefs down anyones throat. I'm not allowed. But Christians have NO problem what so ever that I a)need Christ in my life to be a moral person, better nurse, worth of respect, etc. b)I am hell bound and c) that I am abusing my children (even though they are ELCA Lutherans as is their Da). I find it amusing that I am not allowed to disagree with people who keep insisting that I will be a better person, nurse, parent if I just accept Christ. But they are allowed to keep telling me that.

BTW: I used to be an ELCA Lutheran. I am much happier now that I have my Goddess.
