Yes, although it stays in the car/home while at work.

Yes, it is always on me no matter where I am.

No, I do not see the need.

With the current news over gun control and gun rights legislation being pushed through Congress as a result of the tragedies of Aurora, CO, Newtown, CT and the others like them, the thought of concealed carry among healthcare workers has got my attention peaked. Recently, another Allnurses member started a thread (up to 22 pages presently) about what nurses can do as a result of these horrific events.

This post is not meant to reflect my personal stance on this issue, although I can inform that I am not a CCL holder (however interested), nor is it meant to be a bashing session from either side, but I am interested in seeing how many individuals have their concealed carry license, and if they carry while they are at work (and, yes I am well aware of the legal stance healthcare facilities take as being gun free zones)?

I, also, am aware of some of our members being both nurses and current/former law enforcement officers, so what is your take on this issue?

I can't speak for everyone, but some of my patients are 'scary white people' too.

HAH, yes! Some of the scariest people I've ever met were white and straight out of the woods of Walker County.

Heh, I remember asking a friend in Atlanta, when she was considering working at Grady, if they made scrubs with built-in Kevlar. That's the only way I would do it.

It's amazing how scared people are that have NEVER SET FOOT on the campus of Grady.

I actually have, I gave birth to my daughter there. And when I felt decreased fetal movements one night around midnight and drove myself there, I was very nervous. It was definitely not something I would have done if I didn't have to. Oh, and no increased police presence was noted.

To inject some much needed levity, why use a gun, a hatchet will do!

^ And speaking of what do other countries do with limited access to guns: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/9845438/Man-with-knives-tasered-outside-Buckingham-Palace.html

It had just read the post from Wooh about the gun vs knife post...I'm horribly rephrasing, however, when I glanced up from my smartphone, I was watching this on TV on the news.

I'm, not really a fan of firearms! Just leave it for law enforcer's use!I voted for the last option

Exactly... because when seconds count, they are only minutes away. ;)

Do you realize what you said there? When SECONDS count, minutes away. There are a LOT of seconds in those minutes...

Simple...just like healthcare has become a retail business, the gun-crazed people of the good ol' USA are scared(Of what I cannot seem to figure out??? I dare to say that most of the people that use the "I need it for self defense" card have never even lived in a high crime area or ever been a victim of crime! They just love watching the morons on FOX news...) and feed the true agenda which is the sale of more guns. It is pretty simple. When this country finally...like we did with automobiles and OSHA and many other safety issues...treats gun violence as a public health issue...which the NRA has effectively thwarted...then and only then will we see some real change. No matter what anybody says in response to this...stats...the real "scientific" ones..not the FOX version...do not lie!

I'm thinking that was sarcasm.

Lol, you'd think so, but given the nature of other posts by malamud, I would venture to say it was intentional.
