Any nurses in recovery in Austin /San Antonio texas area

Nurses Recovery

Published

Hi,

Looking for any nurses in Austin or San Antonio area. I am struggling with finding peers for support. I am in tpapn, almost 6 months sober. Would love to be able to talk with someone in the nursing profession. I often feel disconnected in AA meetings as a nurse. This forum is great but I also need to be able to talk to a live person. Thanks for your support.

12 Step Caduceus AA NA Report and Log Sheets the online AA attendance form, that made its way on the Internet, that show you how unsecure your AA attendance is.

Alas- I feel your pain. But barring a catastrophe (such as an attack on USA soil) any nurse with a DUI, drug charge, 'tatoo offense', 'less than one year experience', 'bad hair color', or any other real or imagined challenge is facing the reality of unemployment. For a long time.

I found where the Texas Physician Health Program publishes the case number, title (MD, surgical asst, etc) and specialty (radiology, etc) but not the name. Also the list of drug tests taken, failed, explanation from probationer, and recommendation from Disciplinary Process Review Committee. Not unlike what the BON might do. Except their names aren't published.....

Thank God we all have the grace to change.

I'll have five years sobriety in October. Addiction sucks.

But I'm a better woman, nurse and mother having weathered it.

Some participants are required to show proof of attendance at meetings: that's where these forms such as the blank form that you linked to come in.

AA/NA/Caduceus/etc. group leaders do not keep copies of the completed form, but give them back to the participant so the participant can bring the form to their monitoring program, probation officer, judge, whoever they need to prove attendance to. Now whether these secondary entities keep someone's attendance anonymous is another matter. Most do. Sadly, some do not.

Sober,

I sent you an email at the address you provided. Unfortunately the other info seems to have disappeared.

Hi, I live in Austin and am in recovery. I attempted TPAPN but didn't succeed because I was unable to gain employment. Right now I'm on probation with the BON. It's been 4 years since I've been out of work. Anybody that knows of places hiring nurses with stips in or around Austin, your input would be greatly appreciated

Hi, I also live in Austin and am in recovery (02-18-2005). I was never licensed in TX, but was in AZ. My license was revoked. I misunderstood the terms of my BoN requirements for the CANDO program. Both my fault and the fault of the person giving me information. I actually left the state to continue my recovery in CO and was told I would be able to participate from there. Not true. I take responsibility. However, I have now been clean and sober since 2005 and I have been thinking of getting my license back (or at least try!). I have been attending AA the entire time and recently began to look for meetings that focus on healthcare professionals. I know I have a long road ahead of me in re-activating my license, but I am willing to try. I, too, have not found any meetings that focus on professionals, and I called the State BoN, and they also did not have and resources for me. It is frustrating and I am wondering if anyone in Texas is familiar with how receptive Austin is to nurses who are re-entering the workforce (providing I am able to obtain my license) after recovery?

I welcome any information and thanks for this forum. It is great to know I am not alone!

I could really use someone to talk to due to these same circumstances. Would appreciate it. Lolly
