When will I receive my Nclex Eligibility in California

I'd like to know when will I receive my Nclex eligibility. I'm from California and I just went back to the Philippines to finish Nursing. I graduated last March 2010. I moved back here on June 2010 and applied that month as well, After 2 weeks, I got a mail from BON requesting for additional requirements from my school which includes: Class Schedule, Schedule of Clinical Rotation, Photocopy of enrollment forms, transcript of classes prior to enrolling at the nursing program and a photocopy of my passport. My school sent the documents last week of July via FedEx. I checked the tracking number at FedEx and it said that the recipient (BON) already received the documents last August 3, 2010. As of now, I still did not get any letter from BON. How long do I usually have to wait?:confused::confused:

I guess so. What my evaluator told me when I called them after they denied me last year, "That's the problem with the Philippine's Nursing curriculum, the concurrency of cases. We told them about that 4 years ago and now they're still implementing the same." :( So sad.

EXACTLY!!

That's why we as PH grads students and current students were sold the broken ice cream truck in the Sahara!

It was pointed out in another thread that this "problem" was caused by OUR OWN educational higher ups! The CHED, PRC and PNA all gave us the raw end of the deal.

Our own people sold us out! For what? $$$$$$

The CHED, PRC and PNA knew about this problem years ago and choose to ignore the CA BON requirements. C'mon people, don't say that it's a CA BON problem it's not! It's our educational system that let us down the wrong path!

So many of us PH grads can't even pass the NCLEX the 1st time, the 2nd time, the 3rd time or more.....just read the amount of threads in the NCLEX discussion section, it's primarily PH students failing and failing over and over again.

We have PH clinical instructors who don't have any business telling us what to do with they themselves just graduated nursing school with little to no real life nursing experiences, what a joke! How many here knew better than the instructor's knowledge of what he or she was telling us?

Sorry for venting, but if none of you feel like you've just wasted 4 years of hard work and studying our brains out, only to be turned down based on a known faulty system, then, you're still in a dream world.

Here's the real sad part: CHED, PRC and PNA still aren't doing a darn thing about this! Not from what others still in school are saying.

I felt the same way, what you are feeling right now. I blamed the CA BON before but it came to a point of realization that it is the PH's Nursing education system has these flaws which should've been resolved/corrected. I mean, yeah, back in 2010, CABON wasn't that strict in evaluating applications so PH graduates can take NCLEX easily, pass and get a license.

But early 2011, all of it has changed. It's like, you can apply but you won't get eligibility. It's like throwing off your money. Our 4 years of hardships in the nursing school was just a piece of **** and is WORTHLESS.

It's really heartbreaking and it ruined our dreams to become a registered nurse here in California. I mean yes the concurrency of cases, but the CABON should've informed us early about that, coz' before when I applied, it took me 4-5 replies from CABON before I knew I ain't eligible to sit for the NCLEX exams. They should've informed us from the start. That's the sad part. I felt I was called to get my eligibility and they kept me hangin on - which is an impossible thing to happen.

I cried oceans of tears after I knew the bad news from 'em. I got their reply letter on Christmas Eve of 2011. It made me feel I’m nothing. I got depressed. I know many of us felt or still feeling what I’ve experienced.

It’s not easy to study 4 years of BSN just for nothing. But I know, even though this thing is happening to us PH graduated nurses, I know we’ll get through with this. Do not lose hope. WE WILL GET WHAT WE DESERVE. THIS IS JUST A CHALLENGE. Don’t stop believing that you can make it in the right time. Continue striving. :)

Bern026 Hello I am planning to also go to Trinity university of asia. Were you able to turn in all the forms that the BON was requesting? And were you able to take the NCLEX-RN?

Hi everyone i was lurking on this site forever and came across this topic that really concerns me. Just wanna add input that might help anyone??? I am residing here in the u.s. and also applied for nclex rn last late 2010 ( graduated in the Phils. 09' ) . I submitted all the requirements stated online and I think approx. a month or so got the respond from CA BON asking me to mail more and more requirements I cannot remember each documents they wanted but as far as i know its the same thing they are asking from all you guys.. At first look ,I was like Whattt??? these are impossible,,I have no idea what they're asking,, But I didn't focused on that too much instead ,i trusted my university , mailed the exact original letter from CA BON right away! and asked a relative overseas to show my school the letter and demand them that they should provide me everything i need,, and luckily they processed the it within a month ,sent it and next thing i know the CA BON mailed me my eligibility by january 2011.. So I am advising you guys to contact your school in the first place cause they should know all about these before you know it, whatever it is,whether requirements, standards,CHANGES etc. Since you worked all your way to graduating in their school/university with all the money you paid, efforts in time studying, and late night duty, sheeshHH.. they should be responsible for it.. Good luck! kabayan .. Please Don't ever lose hope.GOD BLESS US ALL!

That's great news you got your eligibility from CA, BUT you see, you "made it" (applied to the CA BON) prior to the 2011 cut-off month and year.

So no matter when we graduated, be it 2004 thru 2012, if those of us that are now just applying, we will be affected by the concurrency enforcement, that is the same with 12 other states. CA BON is not accepting any letter of explanation as it's already written in our transcripts, we are not in compliance with the old rules. There are others here who have tried to submit a letter of explanation from the deans of their schools, but the previous denial decision remains the same....application denied (again).

The thing is also for those that got their eligibility earlier, but failed the NCLEX, upon the re-application to re-take the exam, there's a very high chance the re-application will be denied, as they will ask again and will review the file even closer. There are many threads here with many of us PH's unable to get the chance again. If you do, don't fail the exam.

There are only less than 2, maybe 3 here that got lucky on the re-application but the vast majority will not be able to re-take the exam in CA and are having to go to another state, far away from CA, with no chance to endorse-transfer back into CA, as they will re-exam the college transcripts again.

Hi Dcmom,

did you already take the Exam and pass it, so you're already an RN! :)

i did like everything you just did in applying, and submitting every single documents they need, and even asked my relatives to go to my school and do all the paper works. the only difference we had was the timing ,i apply January 2011. and just got the recent mail from the BON telling about the defficiency. right now im not sure what should i do next, its really heart breaking... :(

any advice... thanks...

To Duke09: On your question on what to do next.....

Yep, welcome to "don't bother to apply into CA" club for awhile.

There are a handful of local CA colleges that might offer the deficient courses, but it's very limited, like 1-2 spots, you're competiting with 1,000's of other international students from not just PH. You have to pass various test exams and offered once a year admission, maybe twice, not sure. You can read the various threads here for the schools.

Even if you get in, it's about 18-24 months to complete them and very $$$ in the $10,000's and will need to be paid in advance.

Your other options are to apply out of state or become an LVN in CA, then try to get to be an RN, but understand that to get into those programs (LVN to RN) they are waiting list from 2-3 years or longer and no guarantee you're eligible to get accepted.

Apply into other states, but just know it's not possible to endorse-transfer the out of state RN license back into CA, as CA BON needs to review the same transcripts that was denying the application in the first place.

Say "thank you" to our CHED, PRC and PNA, as it's been on the CA BON minimum requirement list since 1987 and our own PH agencies knew of these issues years ago but choose to ignore it and now they're starting to possibly change the curriculum for the future students, too late for those graduating from 2012 and prior to, it remains to be seen if the 2013 grads will be approved with their courses by the CA BON.

:)Thanks steppybay... :) I see that the club "dont bother to apply to Ca" are getting bigger and bigger...Maybe ill try to check out more about the lvn here in ca. Because i think applying into another states is not an option for me right now. Thanks a lot... :) God bless!

yeah it's better to apply and to sit for nclex-pn :) I was denied by the CABRN last year and then I decided to apply for VN exam. I thought of having a VN license rather than nothing 'cause applying to other states is not in my plan. Then after, I'll work on my deficiency to be eligible for RN exam since they told me to repeat MS and OB subjects respectively. Now, I'm preparing for my exam. :) I know I made a better decision. Goodluck to us and God Bless :D

Thanks zhapper2002! :) gud luck! Keep us posted... I was starting to check and browse about the requirements and steps in taking The LVN. Still got some question but ill try to do some research too. :) I really appreciate your help guys..

You will find most of your questions answered here in this forum, just look for some of the titles under the LVN or BVNPT headings, some have step-by-step process.
