Hi,

I am a registered nurse in the Philippines and currently working as a staff nurse. I am going to complete my 6 months paid experience this coming July 2. Am I eligible to apply for Australia? I really want to study and at the same time work abroad. Do I have a chance? How do I get started? I'm planning to take my IELTS exam as well next month. I hope I can get any reply. I really want to fly abroad already. :D I don't mind attending any bridging course or complete training and such just to have a license abroad.

Thank you.

Hi. You can take your IELTS first then have your documents / credentials assessed by AHPRA to see if you are eligible to apply for nursing registration. There are schools that offers bridging program and will enable you to attend the course under subclass 600 or student visa (depends if the school / course is CRICOS accredited). If you are on a student visa, you can work for like 20 hrs / week. But may I remind you as well that most hospitals here requires 3 years and up hospital experience since the competition is getting tighter and it is really not easy to find a job afterwards unless you have extensive experience in special areas that are currently needed here. I hope this answers your queries satisfactorily.

Hi ekaterinamika,

Just to give you an overview for the bridging program, first you have to take the IELTS and make sure to have a 7 score on all the sub tests (Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening) to be able to qualify to one of AHPRA's requirements. Then you submit your documents and application form (for which you can search on AHPRA's website) to any of the states, it doesn't matter (although if you read the thread here, some say AHPRA Vic is the fastest but doesn't give future extensions while AHPRA WA is the slowest but are considerate in extensions-this I'm not yet sure of because I'm not yet on the point where I will be needing an extension as of now). Just to give you an idea, mine was lodged October in AHPRA WA and I got my eligibility Christmas Eve, Dec.24, 2012. After you receive your eligibility, it's time to scout for accredited schools listed on the AHPRA website. After securing a slot for an intake, you lodge your visa (the reformatted one for bridging is the Sub class 600). Make sure you receive your visa before the school starts because that will be a problem. I am hoping I will be able to get my CoA asap so I may lodge now and be able to have a positive Visa result before my schooling starts. Hope that helps. :) And ceridwynis right. Read this thread to guide you. It is very much helpful. I have had people who also helped in giving me advise and info here as well. :)

thanks for the swift reply @jems :)

i thought docs that came from the school must then be certified by the school. Now i am enlightened. i'll consider that.. i actually thought of that but was not sure..

p.s. the fee for the CTC c/o school registrar is only 20php per page. ive read that notary from a lawyer costs 100php/page.aw

Hi ezela,

I had my docs certified at a notary public near POEA for just Php10 per page.

@rv_phen & @ironmom26 Thanks! You've both been really helpful. Did you submit your NBI clearance as part of your requirements for application? Is it really necessary? Mine expires on June 15 and I'm having second thoughts whether to send it or not.

hi vitamin_n,

The school did not ask for the NBI Clearance. But it's part of the student visa app so might as well renew it :)

Statement of service is your.certificate of.employment while professional reference letter is like recommemdation letter.from your senior nurse or chief.nurse

Do we need to submit a professional reference letter to AHPRA? Isnt it that the COE is the only one required?

Does anyone know which state is the fastest to approve the LOE? Thanks :)

Hi Zoe,

did they refuse your application in the end? Or did you make an appeal?

statement of service is different from cert of employment.. in my previous workplace, they wont issue SOS unless I have alreay resigned from my work. prof ref letter is from your senior nurse or much better a letter from your supervisor..

hi! can someone send me a copy of their CV? i had already submitted mine in AHPRA but they require me to modify it. I wonder what's wrong with it. :( Please send me a copy of yours. Thanks in advance!

Hello,

They just want to confirm it with the employer that's why you need to give specific details to them, whatever they ask you have to provide it.

Anyway, that is not a problem just include in the letter all the necessary details they need and even if you declare working full time you still need to put how many hours, since some hospital are in a 12-hr shift per day with a total of 48hrs/week, like mine;)

Hope this helps;)

Thank you!! :)
