Immigrant in CA requiring make up courses for California

World Registration

hello! I am a filipina nurse living here in bay area. I just came here last year so I don't really know how to deal with all the nursing issues that they have here. So, i'm not eligible to take the NCLEX-RN and they say that if I want to be a nurse here, I must study again. I'm okay with that but I don't really know what nursing program I am taking.. is it LVN? Does anyone here knows a good nursing school in bay area???? Please enlighten me!

Do you have to study all the nursing courses or just some of the course like OB or pysch? It seems like you want to be an RN that is the what you should do. Clarify what you need and then make an appt with schools in your area to see what the process is.

I'm searching enlightenment! I am a registered nurse in Phils. just came here last year (june 2013), got denied by ca-brn to be eligible to take NCLEX-RN and now taking route of challenging the LVN test. I got few questions to ask about this process, I know some of the question is dumb but please be patient and I beg everyone to help me for I have a very poor understanding of some things.

My first question is, AM I RIGHT TO HAVE CHOSEN METHOD #03 ?

Second, HOW DO I ANSWER #7 QUESTION OF FORM 55A-1 PARTICULARLY THE SECOND PART WHICH ASK "DID YOU PASS A HIGH SCHOOL EQUIVALENCY TEST? (i don't remember passing such test but I do remember I graduated high school in my province!)

Third, WHERE CAN I FIND THE "POSTCARD 55A-7"

fourth, I NEVER HAD A FORMAL NURSE JOB IN PHILS. ALL IS MORE OF VOLUNTEERING AND STUFF. DO I NEED TO PROVIDE THE "EMPLOYMENT VERIFICATION"? WHAT DO I SAY?

Lastly, PROOF OF 54 THEORY HOURS OF PHARMACOLOGY.. WHAT IS THIS???

If anyone of you here thinks I am DUMB, well, YOU'RE RIGHt. so please help me... help me how to do this thing.

Thanks for reading and may god bless you always!

From my understanding, you are correct in choosing option #3. Your transcripts from your BSN program will have to be evaluated for educational equivalency to the LVN education requirements. I suspect that if your education is deemed equivalent, you'll be approved. The "51 months" of paid experience is for people that aren't licensed or have gone to school (much) for nursing but have gathered sufficient on-the-job training/experience to perform at the LVN level. The 54 hours of pharmacology is the education you get regarding medications and usually is included in RN programs and may not be listed as a separate course. Your program director is the one that would certify that you've received the required hours of pharmacology education. If all your experience as an RN is strictly unpaid volunteer work, that wouldn't count toward your "paid" experience. Your formal Nursing education should substitute for that.

Here's a thread that should have a lot of information you'll need: https://allnurses.com/nurse-registration/ca-bvnpt-lvn-696468.html

Oh, and the forms and such you'll need are all on the BVNPT's website here: BVNPT - Vocational Nurse Licensure Application Forms

Why don't you post the actual letter and redact your name so we can actually see what CABON wants. Your questions are cryptic and I gave up trying to understand what your questions were.

I know you are a recent immigrant but try to organize your thoughts and questions so you can get answers. You will be surprised by the wealth of knowledge of the members here.

Thanks for your reply! since I do not have an employment record, do I still have to attached the "record of nursing experience" and "employment verification-nursing experience" in my application or I won't be needing it? hey, uhmm, sorry to keep asking for this, I'm feeling hella dumb about this but, where and what is the postcard thing it says in the step 1 instruction?

Since you're a BSN graduate you can use method 3 for your application. Here's the simplest instruction for your application.

Send the record of nursing program to your school and once your school is done. (What you need is the record of nursing program form( I believe they need at least 1500 hours clinical, not really 100 % sure bout this though) and 54 hour pharmacology theory. If your pharma is integrated with other subjects, let your dean explain it in a letter that it was integrated with other subjects.) Let them send it to YOU with the other stuff like RLE and TOR in a sealed envelope. Once you got it. Send the VN application, fee, picture, fingerprint, copy of your highschool diploma, record of conviction form plus the sealed envelope from your school to bvnpt.

Regarding your question bout 55A-7, did you read the note that it says Not applicable for applications downloaded from the internet. I'm guessing that you printed out the application packet from the internet.

Hi i wanna know the progress in your application it will be a great help if you share the process u gone through in applying lvn license..i just came here too last year...presently reside here in norcal...thank u

If you have been formally rejected by California... what you should do is start contacting all accredited nursing schools if they will offer it to you...my friend took it from a private school for 12,000 usd ... some went to a state university and paid 4000... try contacting schools around you if they will be able to fit you in their MS and OB classes( if you are a graduate of 2012 onwards), Psych (for 2011 graduates) ... not LVN classes

Hi pj..I just want to ask wat is d school of your friend who took those deficiency courses? Thank u

Were these schools your friend and the other person located in Nor CA or So CA? Did they already get their ATT's?

The school's name can be mentioned since it's got to be CA BRN approved and on their website listing so don't be shy in naming them.

There's over 7,500 PH applicants alone that are still searching, of course, we all know that most will be very limited in their enrollment as there are also other stranded and frustrated applicants from other parts of the world all looking.

I see this all the time here in All Nurses. A friend took the course at this... A friend did that......etc etc etc. But when it comes to naming the supposed school, the thread or the poster becomes silent or evasive. Just like what steppybay said, there are over 7500 foreign grads desperately searching. How bout ya exercise some charity and ya throw them a bone by telling us the name of this or these schools.
