CA BRN New Requirements For NCLEX RN international students

World Registration

Published

I had already registered online in Pearson Vue but I think I'm not yet eligible to take the test. Is there an expiration date for my registration at PV?

I received a letter from CA BON requesting for new requirements such as:

  1. SS number
  2. Local license in the Philippines
  3. Copy of ur clinical rotation schedule for your cases: Assisted/Actual deliveries, cord dressing, and major/minor surgeries
  4. A complete school curriculum hundred pages or more sent directly from ur nursing school to the board. (the board doesn't accept the condensed version of the curriculum
  5. A one-page curriculum outline and academic calendar.

Fortunately, I had the first 2 requirements but I am worried that the last 3 will take time to be accomplished.

I am wondering if it's just me who have this requirement. Most of NCLEX passers I know weren't required on those listed above. It's really hard to focus on review while your thinking of this :uhoh3:

I am in temecula too! where are you here? email me at [email protected]

Hi! Im near Temecula community & recration center. Emailed you! :)

Hi im new here. I am also a graduate of nursing in the philippines. I just got here in california 6 months ago, my husband petition me. I was planning to take the NCLEX but i have no idea if Im qualify to take it because of this "concurrency issues". Can anybody give me an advice what is the best thing to do. Thanks

hi! well i just wanted to share my friend's story.

well my friend graduated last April 2014. she did took the PNLE but unfortunately failed. so right when she failed, she quickly processed her NLCEX RN for the golden state (cali) while she was still in the Philippines. She said that was August 2014 when she applied for it, i just don't know how in the world she've done her live scan/ finger printing done when she is out of the country. so she sent her basic application. just weeks affter she submitted her initial application, the cali brn responded to her application, telling her to submit more of the requirements. including her foreign licens, rle manual/clinical booklet/log, copy of passport/visa, ssn, and the other requirements must come fromthe school she have graduated in the philippines. (by the way the mail was addresed here in cali since here mom is in here.) so since she was still in the philippines, she have went to her school and worked on her papers, TOR, CASES and all the whatnots of the cali brn.so she said since her school was all aware with the concurrency issue, her adviser helped her way thru since her cases were not concurrent with the theoretical hours. so inshort, the school have helped her. her school have adjusted the dates of her cases so it will fall with the theory. they didn't think it would work out. so by sept 2014 she went back here in cali, by january this year the cali brn asked her her foreign license, so she wrote a letter that she have taken the PNLE yet failed it.. then the cali brn again asked for more supporting docs from her school such as academic calendar and the schedules of all her duties... her school then responded to it. then unexpectedly and luckily, by march this year she got her elegibility letter from cali brn...

so yeah! that's her story..

and i have known someone also who have tried applying the nclex rn here in cali who got denied also and was told to take the ob and med surge again, well she have talked with her analyst she said. her analyst told her that if the school is completely aware with this concurrency issue between cali brn and our schools, then they should have made some actions, such as negotiating or trying to fix the papers of the students since in the philippines the "completion" duty is really rampant due to tons of students specially in the past years. so yeah..

well, as for me, i am still about to submit my application though i have paid already. i wanted to give myself some hopes of getting the magic letter from the cali brn. but i know that i have the 99.9% chance of not getting thru the cali brn's needle.. i know that it would take a miracle to surpass the cali brn. because my cases were not concurrent to my theories. my DR cases were done during my ncm104. hahaha and my OR cases were done and completed when i was already on my final year on my nursing degree. my cases were just mess hahaha. i just wanna laugh my anxiety away. i dont wanna stress myself with this. but i cannot avoid it.. though they say that being denied by the cali brn for the nclex rn doesnt end there, but you know it is really disappointing. i mean we have studied 4 years, and it is a degree, how come we are not elegible? compared to those who have studied here, they have just 2 years, but. how come??!*sigh* well never mind.. i'll just divert my attention right after i submit my application and would just pray.. and find some remedy and other routes in advance..

GOD BLESS to us!

and goodnight!

Just so you know that by your own comments above " so inshort, the school have helped her. her school have adjusted the dates of her cases so it will fall with the theory. they didn't think it would work out." Her school just now committed fraud and falsification of her transcripts!

Once the CA BRN and their investigators starts to get more and more transcripts from the same school(s) that are now very suspect and should other schools and colleges start to "adjust" everyone's documentation just so they can "meet the concurrency rules", don't be surprised if one day, the CA BRN will NO longer accept any transcripts from the PH and then require any and all applicants to not be approved at all, whether by first-time applications or by endorsement.

What drove the CA BRN to enforce the concurrency rules in Nov. 2011 to present may soon spread to a complete and immediate declination of ALL applicants from the Phils as now the schools will be guilty of submitting false documents.

I mean, if the CA BRN can't trust the PH schools and colleges, then it's easier to simply no longer accept any applications or applicants.

The CA BRN will eventually find out why are all of a sudden, they are getting more and more transcripts from the previous schools that previously were known to not meet the concurrency for years and this includes all the top 10 PH schools.

Yeah. I dont know how they have done it. Because i know once u have submitted the cases there is no turning back you cannot change a thing. I just dont know if its true of what she told me. But thats what a word from her. Because the way i look at it, it is really impossible to get thru it by changing things especially if it is in the registrar's hand already.

So jeY.....just think of the consequences of what the school that "adjusted" the transcripts of your friend.

She gets to take the NCLEX-RN, there's a very good chance that you will not get the chance due to your own knowledge that your transcripts will not turn up "concurrent".

Upon her passing the NCLEX and may find a nursing job in CA, you may be joining the other 10,000's plus of frustrated and disappointed PH grads and nurses struggling to find the schools to re-take the deficiencies. Your friend will not have to worry about trying to get enrolled and will not have to spend a dime on the tuition cost and books.

Your friend will get to enjoy life in CA while you (and others) have to move out of state and be away from friends and relatives on the weekends and holidays. Your time-off will be spent calling and talking to friends and relatives on the phone or laptop and not get to have time to stop by a restaurant to have a nice dinner with them.

The list goes on....

So all your hard work for the four years will not be seen unless you actually do meet the concurrency or you're able to complete the deficiencies within the three (3) year limitation to complete your application.

You played the game the right and honest way, but now you'll have to suffer the consequences by those that got to "short-change" the system.

I wish you good luck with your application.

Yeah you really have a good point. Well, that was her way. i do not know for sure personally of what got into her mind or the school itself

of why they have done that. Well anyway that's her life. Though maybe it would affect me and the others who will still file, but you know life goes on if we'll get denied. I mean at least i will not regret that i have given it a shot. Hehehehe i just hope she'd pass the exam so she wont reapply again. As for me i will still be submitting my application tomorrow. And though all my hopes are up,

i still know that i would only have this slim chance of a .1 % of getting thru the concurrency issue since my cases are just a mess. But i will give an update of how it goes once i submit it. Thank you so much for the knowledge about all this stuff.

Hi, Anyone recently submitted their NCLEX- RN application California? -RN from Phil here.

Any updates?

I have passed the nclex last 2009. I was not able to get my ca license due to the ssn requirement. I am now just waiting for my petition to be approved.

Is there any chance that I will not be subjected to the concurrency rule?

Hello! Did you submit your NCLEX RN application already?

Not yet. I have to wait for the petition to be approved. Once I get there and obtain my ssn, then I will send my application.

Hi.. I received the same letter from CABON asking my clinical cases. My dilemma is that i already took and passed the NCLEX in california way back 2008 and i just couldnt get a SSN during that time.. Now that i migrated here in LA i called then and asked if i could get a lisence and they told me to just submit the same requirements as i did when i was applying to take the exam and i dont have to re take the exam anymore.. Now after reading all the comments imworried that my cases is not concurrent with the theories.. Im totally lost now and i dont know how to proceed with this...
