CA BRN New Requirements For NCLEX RN international students

World Registration

Published

I had already registered online in Pearson Vue but I think I'm not yet eligible to take the test. Is there an expiration date for my registration at PV?

I received a letter from CA BON requesting for new requirements such as:

  1. SS number
  2. Local license in the Philippines
  3. Copy of ur clinical rotation schedule for your cases: Assisted/Actual deliveries, cord dressing, and major/minor surgeries
  4. A complete school curriculum hundred pages or more sent directly from ur nursing school to the board. (the board doesn't accept the condensed version of the curriculum
  5. A one-page curriculum outline and academic calendar.

Fortunately, I had the first 2 requirements but I am worried that the last 3 will take time to be accomplished.

I am wondering if it's just me who have this requirement. Most of NCLEX passers I know weren't required on those listed above. It's really hard to focus on review while your thinking of this :uhoh3:

[color=#393939] hello. to all the aspiring nclex applicants of california board of registered nursing.

[color=#393939]

[color=#393939]at this time, california is imposing severe restrictions on your applications. this is a result of some incompetent filipino graduate nurses who recently became registered nurses but were reported delinquent to a disciplinary committee in california due to bad nursing practice or a select few applicants who produced fraudulent nursing records in order to comply with the ca-brn. it also became a result due to certain select falsified nursing diplomas of applicants who, while living in the united states, in hopes of fooling the california board of registered nursing produced the commonly called *recto falsified documents*. this implementation began in november 2011 and affects all aspiring (non-passing) re-applicants, brand new-applicants, and future rn renewals (of philippine graduate) in the state of california.

[color=#393939]

[color=#393939]should you choose to apply for a nursing license in california---whether as already an american citizen or with filipino citizenship---you *will* be subjected to the following concurrency issues. please note that all applicant fees and mailing fees submitted to the state of california are non-refundable and final.

[color=#393939]

[color=#393939]1. that you should possess a nursing license administered by the republic of the philippines through the philippine regulation commission.

2. if you were once a foreign student, i.e. american citizen, or u.s. immigrant with a limited visa time allowance while studying in the philippines----a formal letter of explanation is required as to why you did not comply with obtaining a philippine nursing license (due to limit of timestay accorded by your philippine student visa).

2. that your nursing clinical rotation schedule and clinical cases be complete *per* skill type.

3. that your nursing clinical cases must be complete *before* the date of your graduation ceremony.

4. that your nursing clinical cases must strictly match *within* the semester associated with rle or ncm skill---in addition to having been completed *before* the date of graduation ceremony. (note: this refers to some nursing schools in the philippines that are not subjected to ched's regulation do not have this rule in their curriculum)

5. that you should possess a valid ssn or tin number for security and verification purposes.

[color=#393939]

[color=#393939]failure or inability to fully comply with these requirements are grounds for the rejection of your application packet.

[color=#393939]

[color=#393939]at this time, a certain motion is also being prepared to affect philippine graduates already working as registered nurses in california to be subjected to the same concurrency regulation once their license renewal is to be updated.

[color=#393939]

[color=#393939]should an applicant chose to apply to another state, other than california and be approved to take the nclex and be a licensed registered nurse in that state (i.e. vermont, new mexico, etc.)----returning back to california in hopes of reciprocity at a future date will still subject you to the same concurrency regulation---and be denied of licensure in california---as the basis of ca-brn licensing unit is education---not the passage of nclex examination or the obtainment of license at another u.s. state.

[color=#393939]

[color=#393939]should the california board of registered nursing offer you a partial solution, it is among the following items:

[color=#393939]

[color=#393939]1. comply with the requirements needed as itemized on the letter of response. if you believe that you have completed your cases before the date of graduation ceremony, and within the structured semestral confines of your rle and ncm *per* type of case matching----then ask your nursing school to comply and produce those requested documents.

[color=#393939]

[color=#393939]2. if your application is deemed incomplete, then a partial solution would be to re-take your cases at an accredited california nursing school. at this time, no nursing school or any nursing business establishment will provided cases for free, or cases without a paid tuition fee classes associated with the clinical case. (business-wise it isn't profitable for the school). and it is wishful thinking that the school will consider you, a non-enrolled student, be prioritized first before their own paying students with tuition-fee obligation---to which the school must commit to graduate.

[color=#393939]

[color=#393939]3. since no other school is offering these cases, only the university of san francisco is offering these cases at this time----the usual requirement by the california board of registered nursing is the completion of medical surge and obstetric cases-----the usual timeline to complete these cases is one year. after which, you must still re-apply again in entirety to the board of registered nursing and seek to be approved to take the nclex examination, pay the non-refundable application fee, comply with the required nursing school documents. even then, the nclex examination approval and the nclex passing are *not* guaranteed.

4. move on or choose to take up another profession other than nursing.

[color=#393939]

[color=#393939]5. contact your assembly locality or other nursing associations who may shed assistance, advice, or solutions to this delicate matter.

[color=#393939]

[color=#393939]hope this helps. may the sacred heart of jesus and the immaculate heart of mary, bless you all and lead you to the right decision.

hello there, did the ca brn directly tell you about the main reason in the issue? and is there already a memo concerning follow-ups on license renewal of filipino graduate nurses who are already working with ca license? please enlighten me. thank you

@Santo_Nino

what?! even the future RN renewals who graduate from ph?

and those FROM PH only??? how about their local

incompetent graduates or other foreign stud? wow! that's absurd!

I knew some of it was the recto university graduates fault..anyway..

screw california. I'm not even planning to work there. pfft.

What is the postcard which the BVNPT is requiring??"H. Postcard (55A-7) – Write your name and address on the postcard provided. Make sure to place a postage stamp on the postcard to receive verification that your application was received bythe

Board. (Note: Not applicable for

applications downloaded from the

internet.)"Guys who are applying or

planning to apply for LVN, what's

the first step you took? It's more

complicated compared to the BRN.

Just making sure I'm on the right

track. Did you guys know how long

will it take us if we take our

deficiency? I tried contacting some

schools but I haven't yet found any

that offers only my deficiency.

Actually the application form that came from the LVN board has the postcard itself that you need to fill up as a return response from the board that they had received your application

I thought the BRN decided to apply these requirements because of Excelsior??

The falsified documents mentioned earlier is not from Recto University or any Nursing Schools associated with that name. Rather, the term refers to falsified or doctored transcripts/diplomas which may be obtained for sale along the Claro M. Recto Avenue in Manila, Philippines.

Such pirated nursing documents were detected by the California Board of Registered Nursing, prompting them to impose strict regulations on non-passing re-applicants, and first-time incoming applicants and RN renewals (Philippine Graduate) in the future.

Other foreign applicants are having a hard time obtaining licensure in CA. You will find incompetent graduates from all nations. Really look at the definition of incompetent. Lacking qualification or ability. It's not a bad thing if you think about it. All new nurses are incompetent until they gain experience in their specialty. We aren't born with experience it's gained through years of practice.

@ Santo_Nino...How did you know all of these?from whom?who is your source?Are you a Phil.graduate too?because its not only Phils.applicants that are being deny,there are also other foreign applicants.So why is it so?and about the renewal thing are you really sure of it?

look at page 26 from the CA BON and there are other countries involved too.

In following several of the recent postings, it seems that there were a couple of posters in various topics that some of their school mates were granted their ATT and yet, they were denied. How is possible if two or more people came from the same school one got it and others didn't and had the same classes? Some were asked who was it that got their ATT as requested by the CA BON people, but these friends didn't want to say who?

No wonder the CA BON is looking at these recent applications under the microscope and with plans to go back to at least 2004. If it's real bad, maybe CA BON will go back even further and again, no one will be spared their jobs even if they are in a very high medical position, it was a lie from the beginning and no matter if they are the best. The thing is these other people that used false documentations have now caused the more honest hard working students to either slow down or stop the applications process as a whole due to the dishonesty of a few or maybe it's much more than a few?

If the source is true and handed down by the CA BON, you can bet other states will follow suit and start to crack down the false college transcripts and pursue those with the same fate proposed by the CA BON.

I feel bad for those who got denied coz im one of them too,but mostly for those who got their license already and now working,what will happen if the CABON will tell them to enroll for their deficiency as well.what about their position as RN?Hope CABON will impose this new rule for those seeking licensure only.Sad to say many are now affected for others that didnt do the right thing in the first place.:crying2:

Hope its just all hearsay for the renewal thing.

thanks BennyRNCA for the enlightening us.
