CA BRN New Requirements For NCLEX RN international students

World Registration

Published

I had already registered online in Pearson Vue but I think I'm not yet eligible to take the test. Is there an expiration date for my registration at PV?

I received a letter from CA BON requesting for new requirements such as:

  1. SS number
  2. Local license in the Philippines
  3. Copy of ur clinical rotation schedule for your cases: Assisted/Actual deliveries, cord dressing, and major/minor surgeries
  4. A complete school curriculum hundred pages or more sent directly from ur nursing school to the board. (the board doesn't accept the condensed version of the curriculum
  5. A one-page curriculum outline and academic calendar.

Fortunately, I had the first 2 requirements but I am worried that the last 3 will take time to be accomplished.

I am wondering if it's just me who have this requirement. Most of NCLEX passers I know weren't required on those listed above. It's really hard to focus on review while your thinking of this :uhoh3:

It's not about the 4 years of study that makes it frustrating.

It's the hassle and long process of application, and the 300$+

we've spent for nothing which is really upsetting.

I haven't got my letter yet. but hopefully It will turn out to be a good one.

if not, well, I'll be REALLY REALLY UPSET (*esp since I have been reviewing for months!)

but I'll just move on.

California isn't the only place on earth you can work as a professional nurse. :o

It's California's loss of great competent Internationally Educated Nurses. =)

I'm gonna start all over again.I'm planning to start my LVN application next week.Being ineligible to take the exam doesn't mean it ends there.Gotta look for another way to reach my goal.Good luck to us.God bless future nurses.:)

guys can you enlighten me? OB and Surgery cases should fall on which NCMs to get the eligibility? Thank you.

yes, and here is the message from my analyst:

"

California Code of Regulations (CCR) Section 1426(d) states that theory and clinical practice shall be concurrent in the following areas: geriatrics, medical-surgical, mental health/psychiatric nursing, obstetrics and pediatrics.

In your country, each student is required to complete theory and clinical training. In addition, part of the clinical experience includes five (5) clinical cases in each of the following areas: assisted deliveries, actual deliveries, cord dressing, major and minor operations. The Commission on Higher Education Department (CHED) together with the schools offering a program in nursing in the Philippines have guidelines of when and what nursing course(s) will cover each of the five (5) clinical cases within the semester.

A review of the educational documents submitted by your nursing school (transcripts, related learning experience (RLE), clinical rotation and clinical cases) reflects that some and/or all of the clinical cases were not completed during the semester that the corresponding courses were offered.

You have obtained a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from the Philippines. The Board would recommend completion of Medical-Surgical II, along with an Obstetrics Nursing course, in a California nursing school where theory and clinical training is concurrent; however, completion of the courses and at what level of training will be the decision of the California school of nursing.

While completing clinical practice out of sequence is acceptable to meet the requirements in your country, it does not meet the requirements in California. A comprehensive evaluation of your training indicates that you do not meet the requirements as set forth in CCR Section 1426(d).

The situation would be the same if you acquired a license in another U.S. state and then attempt to endorse into California. The licensure requirements would still be based on your education. "

Guys, my application got denied last month. Sorry for the late update. CA BRN wanted me to take MS and OB again which will take 2 years. So I decided to apply in New York state. Good luck to us.

How's your application for LVN? I got my letter stating that I'm not eligible. Do you know the requirements for NCLEX-LVN??

"The commission on higher education dept (CHED) together with the schools offering nursing programs in the Phil have guidelines of when and what nursing course(s) will cover each of the five clinical cases within the semster."

-Can someone rephrase this to me. I don't think I fully understand what the analyst really wants to say. It's kinda tricky sentence. Thanks!
