Stupid things doctors do?!

Nurses Relations

I have been a member of a medical website and throughout the years I have ONLY read NEGATiVE comments about nurses and how they are useless, stupid, call for stupid things, and nurses come in handy only when they wipe @$$. Doctors VS nurses...war that never has an ending. Please list some stupid things doctors have done or do. I am very curious to know, thank you:)I hope you all had a great Easter :)

In that case....

It was SO funny/silly when an MD insisted that my pt was having heartburn even though the ECG showed ST-elevation!

Hmm....no, it doesn't seem that "wording it differently" fixes the problemI hope that's not what you meant, brillohead. It's probably not but I had fun with it anyway

No, I was thinking of things like the doctor who goes barreling down the hall and runs into someone holding a bedpan, the contents of which then get dumped all down the front of the doctor.

Stuff that makes you laugh... silly stuff like that. There's a gal who works housekeeping where I've done a few clinicals, and in my Med-Surg rotation she warned us that the floor was wet where she just mopped... and 60 seconds later I proceeded to do the splits and land on my well-padded area. Five months later, she ran into me when I was doing my OB rotation two floors away, and she still giggled with me over my mishap. THAT kind of silly stuff. (I always enjoy those threads... sit and read them for HOURS!)

I didn't read all the posts, but way to go AN for taking the higher road and standing behind your physicians....now if we can only stand behind our fellow nurses.

Maybe I should tone down my comment a little....I do see a lot of support on here, but certainly not the same as they way physicians are with other physicians. Or same as with vets...I had only once in my career heard one vet say a bad thing about another vet, when I was thinking of taking an additional PT job somewhere, and that was just to say that "a vet doesn't say anything negative about another vet unless their pretty bad." Then just gave me a "hinting" look and went into an exam room and that was that. But everyday at work all you hear is "she did this" and "did you hear about that"...blah, hate that stuff, I've got work to do!

We are all human and can make an error. I love all of the hospitalists I work with. We need to bring each other up and not down with negativity. I respect all of the docs I work with.

unquestionably, i prefer to call it a a little misunderstanding than (stupid things doctors do). with that said, i recall one of many doctors orders which read as follow " prn rom to lower extremities" i approach the doctor in questioned and reminded him that the pt. was a double amputee from his lower extremities.

I opened this thread hoping for a chuckle. Instead it seems to be filled with self righteousness. ALL humans make mistakes, some of them amusing. Even docotors! GASP. We treat other nurses horribly and have no bones about making fun of stupid things nurses do. Why are we suddenly martyrs when it comes to docs?

Anyway, I had a doctor once examen the patient's wife by mistake. She was laying in the bed under the covers and the husband/patient was in the shower. The Dr came out and said " I thought so and so in room 4 was a male patient?" Me, confused, "Yes?"

Now why the wife did not tell the doctor she was not the patient, I will never know.

What website?

I want to lurk (stalk) there.

I think there was a little too much misinterpretation... No one called doctors "stupid"-- I believe it was "stupid things doctors do"-- yes, we all do stupid things. And yes, we are all professionals, but I agree that sharing funny moments involving "doctors doing... dumb things" (I tried to think of a more PC way of putting it... but all of you complaining can just get over it) for an innocent laugh is quite appropriate. I'm pretty sure most of us are comfortable sharing silly things we have done. There! "SILLY" instead of "stupid".

Anyway, I work in an acute psych hospital. There are a few doctors, one in particular, who -- and this has happened more than once-- will be rounding and suddenly we have a "code M"-- unruly/combative patient-- he runs for the stairs or elevator... half the time there is no PRN to give so we have to start calling for orders.

Also, the psychiatrists never respond to medical codes. I understand their specialty is in mental health... but they are still MDs- medical doctors!!

Since that isn't as funny as it is pathetic... I will make fun of myself. Just this weekend, I was trying to finish things up and get a report sheet done as it was close to shift change, Accuchecks, etc. We were short-handed and I was flustered and a pt. had a HA. I bring him 2 Tylenol and an empty cup... Yeah... forgot the water...

Doctor bloopers/nurse bloopers. Probably a better title. I once threw a cup of narcotics in the trash without realizing it, when I was organizing the top of my cart. Had a complete meltdown.

And yeah, I've done the empty water cup thing, also, have taken an empty med cup. With a full glass of water though.

I suggest that you google the words student, doctor, medicine, blog. There are several, but some of the tackier ones come up with med students.I take what they say about as seriously as prenursing/nursing students.
