Let's Resolve To....

Nurses Relations

Published

With the coming of the new year, let's resolve to walk away from the drama and the people who create it.

From the "my schedule sucks, SUCKS. But that's ok, because I had a horrible childhood, am estranged from my family.......my boyfriend is a jerk......" to "my hip, my back, my arthritis, my fibromyalgia all acting up, so I can't work......but I am here...." to the "who does that one think she is? Florence herself?!"

Sometimes, we just need to not let it rent space...

Let the negative live elsewhere this year.

I agree. Say hi and bye and tune out the petty nonsense. It is self preservation in the hornets nest of dysfunction where I am right now.

I try not to let the drama rent space, but I've found the drama queens don't like it when their drama isn't shared. That shouldn't matter in any universe, but it does.

Not fitting in isn't a good place to be.

That doesn't mean I can't be a sea of optimism if I put my mind to it. I can deflect and redirect. Maybe that will be my resolution. Not to walk away, but to attempt a change in my coworkers by making a change in myself.

Sometimes I'm such a Pollyanna. When I'm not being Eeyore.:)

I agree, and want to add to this. I am going to find a way each time I go to work to provide genuine care and compassion to at least one person. I went into nursing to make a difference to others. There is so much rush, rush, rush. I am going to slow down and give at least one patient my TLC every day, not must my assessment, med pass, and other clinical skills. Same goes for co-workers-- I care about most of them, but I am going to start asking more how their life is going.

Is there an "Amen!!" button??;)

I have compassion for my coworkers who are struggling with back pain because we are expected to be a mule and move patients too large to safely move since our employers are too cheap to get ceiling lifts and create a no lift environment because it hasn't been mandated by federal law yet! Many people would like to retire or probably should be on disability but can't afford to and our forced to struggle to work in pain! Some compassion is in order because you never know you could end up being in the same boat someday!

"My manager is out to get me!" (Complainant got written up for cussing out co-worker at nurses station). Healthcare is going down the toilet. ObamaCare is ruining life as we know it! This hospital's administration is the worst on the planet with their money grubbing craziness. (Healthcare was so perfect before, right.)

"These non-compliant, demanding patients are the worst ever, society is going down the tubes, and healthcare with it!." (Made over $100,000 last year with overtime, blew a good portion on her own son's heroin rehab and her own health problems relation to not complying with her own diabetes treatment)

"These inexperienced nurses are going to kill the patients!" (Speaker just likes to give those newbies are hard time)

"The manager is sleeping with Dr Jones!" (And the gossiper is the worst tongue wagging, tale-telling co-worker I've ever known.

Yep, I'll be trying to tune it all out in the coming year.

This is a professional goal for me. To smile, nod, offer a sympathetic word or two, and remove myself (whether physically and/or emotionally) from the situation, and maintain a professional demeanor. This goes for both patients and co-workers. These drama queens can be toxic.

by the next year, I hope get a new jobs, with sallary good like a USA, and being happy my parent, also get a someone who love me and to be my husband......:saint:
