Is it hard to find jobs in the nicu or nursery right away? They seem to be the easiest jobs in the hospital. Is there anything difficult about them?

well other than resucitation of newborns, accessing IV's on veins as thin as hair and not being able to communicate with your patient and having anxious parents hovering - it is a piece of cake. I have seen infants born with gastroschesis, spina bifida and other issues that were as sick as any adult in ICU.

This post cannot be for real.
No it is not an easy job.
Yes, it is hard to get one.
The end.

Sadly, I suspect it is.
This isn't the OP's first post; she writes about her mother taking the NCLEX. I imagine one question to Mom might have answered this thread before it started. I hope.

Alas, that probably won't change the tenor or content of the responses. Not.done.yet nailed it in one.

my mom didnt pass it the first time. She has to retake it.
My mom is 50, I don't think she can really handle a med surg job. I just think she needs a slower paced job in a not too busy part of the hospital.

Here's the thing: if you work in a nursery, you can have 4-6 babies who require total care (i.e. feeding, diaper changing, assessment, etc). Every 3 hours. You will be running your butt off to keep up with that (remember how people at home have trouble with just one baby?)
If you work in NICU, you'll have 1-3 patients and be running your butt off too. I took care of one patient a few weeks ago (on a 7a-7p shift) and didn't eat lunch until 3pm (after charge nurse came to take over because I was still doing multiple interventions) and left my shift 30 minutes after it ended just to catch up on charting.
Slow-paced beside nursing doesn't really exist.

NICU is extremely stressful - it is an ICU environment where not only do you have the patient to care for but also a very distraught family.
Not an easy job at all. Doubt there is an easy job. That said, 50 isn't that old - what does Mom want to do?

Why don't you let your mother worry about what sort of a job she can handle. I'm older than your mom, and I'd be pretty insulted if you were writing this sort of thing about ME.

I am sorry- but are you kidding me? Do you understand what NICU means? Your average newborn doesn't not go there. Very, very sick newborns go there, and die there. Does that sound easy? Do you think coding someone the size of your hand sounds easy? This post is ignorant.
