Suny?

  1. Is anyone here going to any of the SUNY campuses? Curious because I am going to Jamestown Community College and wondered if anyone else was anywhere near me or even maybe going there. I start in the fall of this year.

I recently graduated from SUNY Stony Brook which is on Long Island...the campus is beautiful and I received a good education for a low cost (don't ya just love the SUNY system).

Received my B.S. in Nursing from SUNY Institute of Technology in Utica/Rome. It's an excellent program with a strong emphasis on Community Health Nursing. It was a 70+ mile commute for me to take courses, and worth every mile! It has a lovely campus, though. Don't know what the dorm rooms look like.

Note: There's lots of snow in the surrounding region during the winter time!

I go to SUNY Stony Brook right now (majoring in psych) and when I graduate I'm gonna go for nursing there. Stony Brook has a great rep and it's on Long Island where I live, so its convenient

I don't think SUNY Brooklyn is that much. I thought it was more like $12,000 for 15 months. I applied there, but I've packed up my information and the website is currently down.

SUNY Stony Brook has an accelerated program. It is 12 months, and I think it is pretty cheap (definitely not 25,000 maybe 15,000). It might be far from you, but I hear it is very good (very competitive also).

This just goes to show you how cost of living affects everything. My campus is a community college in Jamestown, NY and tuition is only $3000 per year for the two year program.

SUNY's financial info webpage averages the cost of attendance at a SUNY college for the schoolyear 2003-2004 was $15,145 for a full time NY resident student living on campus. That includes room/board,books,supplies,etc. It costs more for a non-New Yorker. Tuition by itself for a NY resident is $4,500.

    Hi Kim,

I'm just a bit north of you - ECC in Buffalo, N.Y. I started w/prereqs. last September, was admitted to "the program" in January and it's been a heck of a semester so far. I really enjoy the nursing program, I just wish I wasn't in A&P II at the same time. I think I would be getting a lot more out of nursing if I didn't have A&P taking up so much of my time.

The program is a blast! I love the clinicals. Best of luck to you!!!

P.S. How's everything at the "I Love Lucy" museum?

Ya know, I haven't been to the museum yet and I REALLY love lucy!! LOL! But, my upstairs neighbor works there...does that count for anything? I did my A&P I a few years ago when I first started this journey in the pre-nursing program. Now I will do my 2 in the spring. I love it though so I don't think I'll mind so much! Thanks for the luck..I'll send some your way too!

Good to meet someone at least within striking distance for once!

    Hi Kim,

There's a lady in my class who is from Gowanda, N.Y. I told her a joke I heard when I was like five:

Q: Do you know how to get to Gowanda?

    A: Gowanda bus.

She hasn't spoken to me since. Must be a "first born".
