Need a Job

U.S.A. New York

Hi everyone, I just need some help. Can any one tell me which hospital is hiring new nurses. Some hospitals want experience nurses. I need a job now.

I need help too. I want a job in the city. I'm a fairly new nurse. I have a year and half experience with med-surg here in Jersey with an Associates Degree. I'm currently attending a RN to BSN online program, and hopefully will be done by 2014. I have my NY RN license. Been applying for several hospitals in the city with no luck! I did get a call from Mount Sinai but I was not home! They left a message on my voicemail, I called them back & didn't get an answer or call back. Right now I feel like I should just give up. I see new grads with BSN's getting hired with no experience. I can't even get an interview cause I don't have BSN attached to the end of my name. Unfortunately that's the world we live in, life is not fair. But I'm still thankful to have a job here in Jersey :)

Specializes in Pediatrics.

If you still have that med surg job in NJ, I'd just hold on to it. You'll have a BSN in a year, and then you'll have 2.5 years of experience.

In today's market, there's no point in trying to rush it. A lot of it is out of everyone's control right now.

Pinosyn- having 1.5 years of med-surg experience is better than not having any experience which most of new grads have... If you still have that NJ job I would say keep it till you get your BSN. My friend works ER at Elmhurst and they've been hiring new nurses. Also check out Coney Island Hospital.

Is there any nurses that can help me out with a job. I've been filling out application since march and I am tired. I hope to God that someone will call me soon. I need money. I go to school for all these years and now getting a job is so hard. To all the nurses that have experience I know u got a hook up from someone. Please someone help me out.

Specializes in MedSurg, PACU, Maternal/Child Health.

Not everyone got in through connections (aka hook up to a job). I for one, had zero connections. The four interviews (different hospitals) I had before I got my current job were through online applications. So apparently, they do look at online applications. Make certain your resume is organized (Skills ad Certifications, Experience, Education). It took me 9 months after NCLEX to get a hospital job. My first job was 2 months after NCLEX at a clinic with home care visits. Try other jobs besides hospital until you can find one in a hospital. I tried to help a friend get a job in my hospital, however I was told to tell her to apply online. So they do not take references until they screen the applications it seems. Just keep applying to jobs. I know it takes a long time but this is due to being so many nurses in the nyc area and with hospitals closing it takes longer than 2 months to get a job for most people.

Thank you estrella, for your advice I am so frustrated.

I agree with Estrella. I did not know anyone who helped me with my job offer. I passed my NCLEX in February. I have been applying EVERYWHERE and I finally landed a couple of interviews and got an offer. From my experience, looking for a job it is a full time job! You have to be very diligent about your strategies. Even if you have already applied to a position at one hospital, check that website every single day for other openings. Keep an excel sheet of all the places you have applied and do a little research about nursing recruitment. Some hospital post their telephone numbers on their website. Pick up the phone and try to make that personal connection. I know it's hard and frustrating but this is what it takes.

Also, how is your resume looking? Make sure when you apply on line for a position, you change the objective of your resume with the same wording used in the job description. Those words will be picked up automatically by a computer and they need to match with your resume. I totally agree...it is exhausting!! But I can honestly tell you that if you are diligent you will definitely land an interview, especially if you already have experience, which I believe you do.

Good luck!

I don't have experience, I am a new nurse and I"ve been filling out application, calling the hospitals, speaking to nursing recruitment and they all tell me the same thing. Just keep filling because there is a high volume of candidates. Its frustrating.

Specializes in Complex pedi to LTC/SA & now a manager.

Have you had anyone review your résumé? You may need to be a bit creative to highlight your accomplishments since graduation and before the time you passed the NCLEX. Check the resume forum in the nursing career section here for some ideas. As you've already found automatic rejections since most facilities won't consider you a new grad finding a new format may be

beneficial.

Check the FAQ threads for links & ideas. Also strongly consider non-hospital jobs to get some paid nursing experience in the interim. Good luck.

Oh..I'm sorry. I thought you mentioned in another post that you had experience as a nursing assistant and in acute care.

I do have experience as a nursing assistant for 10 years but not a nurse.
