Nassau Community College

U.S.A. New York

Hi, all,

I applied to Nassau Community College today for the Spring 2010 semester. I understand that the Spring class is much smaller than the Fall semester. Would anyone mind sharing -- I applied with a 3.75 and all pre-reqs done. Anyone out there get in to the January class in the past with a comparable GPA? I understand that it's all according to the pool of GPA's they receive - 4.0's first, but I'm looking for a glimmer of hope.

Thanks!

Nassau is very tough to get into. My friend got rejected with a 3.90 GPA. I am starting to get nervous about it but not done with all my Pre-reqs yet. Good Luck!!

Seriously consider this is what you want. As much as everyone says nurses are in demand in NY they are not. I started at NCC and I cant find a job. The job market isnt what everyone thinks. There program is so ridiculous. Yeah its cheap and reputable but not all that in the end.

Specializes in Home care.

I agree, my best friend transfered to molly college from ncc now she a RN. you might want to think of a plan B. like transfering to a private school where you will most likely get into a program. Good Luck!

Hi Dibbs197

I joined just to "chat" with you... I also applied for Spring 2010, with everything done (except Med Mic)... and my GPA is 3.5. A 3.75 is GREAT!! I believe they prefer students will ALL classes done. You can't go by others, as some students (who I met at the NCC session) think their 3.8/4.0 will get them in, HOWEVER, that 4.0 is only for the four (4) pre-reqs classes. I believe you have good chance of getting in. we'll find out in less then 2 weeks. Good Luck!!

Hi Suzi4,

Thanks for joining to chat with me! Waiting and applying is such a tough process and its nicer to have people to talk with that are going thru the same nerve wracking experience! You have a terrific GPA as well, and I wish you lots of luck getting in! There seems to be rumors abound at NCC about what GPA gets you in, but in the end, it's not up to us candidates! It's between the mailman and the NCC administration:)

I don't like to come off sounding like a know-it-all, but I did attend the Nursing session given by the Nursing Dept chair and it was stated that the more pre-reqs done, the greater the chances of admission. Granted of course, that the GPA is competitive. Honestly, it's not hard to have a 3.8/4.0 with only 4 classes done. Nonetheless, I wish all of us with nursing in our hearts equal chances of getting in!

Good luck to you and I'm glad you joined - I like to chat!:)

Hi Dibbs,

I didn't attend the NCC info meeting. Thanks for passing that along. Did they say they want all the other coursework done? I am currently taking AP2 and Eng Comp2 and still have Med Micro and Psych Life Cycle to take. I applied for Spring 10 and have a high GPA (3.9 over 22 credits )Thought I'd have a good chance of getting in, but now not sure since I haven't completed other courses yet.

I guess there's always January 10... sigh

Karenanda,

Congrats with your knock-out GPA! They didn't give specifics at the meeting as to what classes needed to be done prior to acceptance except of course for the obvious ones (math, eng, A&P1, etc). I don't know what you would call them, but I think of them as the basic pre-reqs. But, they did say that the more courses you had already taken, the better your chances of acceptance, and the highest GPAs with the most courses taken I guess "win":) Sounds to me like you are doing more than o.k. GOOD LUCK!

Thanks Dibbs... Good luck to you too!!.... I guess it all depends what we're up against. Everyone that I'm friends with in my AP2 that's applied have 3.9's also so I'm pretty nervous. If I don't make it for January then there's always September. :)

Hi Ladies

Did you guys get in? You both had great GPAs.

Hi Dibbs...

Hope you got in... I didn't :( But there is always Fall. When you went to the info session, did they tell you it's in ones best interest to "re-take" courses that you did pourly in? I was told NOT to retake any classes as we get points deducted. I took Psy 20 years ago... and have a C in the course... that is really brining my GPA down, but not sure if I should retake it and risk it. Out of 8 people in my AP2 class one gentleman got in... 3.91 however only had 5 classes under his belt... I am happy for him... nice guy.

pourly?? i meant "poorly" maybe I should retake an English course... lol
