Name the hospital and its Starting Salary!!!

U.S.A. New York

Published

Mt. Sinai $68,000 effective 1/07

Specializes in LTC, HomeCare.
I interviewed with them recently and it is $81K for a new grad. Unfortunately they are not hiring ADN nurses anymore (they changed their policy right after my 2nd interview & before I took my NCLEX) so I did not get the job.

This is in response to Memorial Sloan Kettering.

Thank you for posting. Is this the base salary or with night differential?

I'm not sure, sorry.

Hi. So many people are listing salaries and also including the $ for BSN. Does that mean that some of these hospitals are still hiring ADN's ?

I am a student, just trying to figure out what everything means.

Thanks.

Specializes in ICU / PCU / Telemetry / Oncology.

Depends on what part of the state you're in. In the NYC metro area, getting into a hospital as a new grad (if at all possible d/t the competition) will require a BSN. Only ADNs with significant experience are having an easier time getting jobs, and even then a good majority of them have better chances if they are in a RN-BSN program. Upstate NY however I believe has different stats for new ADN grads.

Thank you for your reply. I am in the metro area. It has been my understanding that no ADNs are being hired for hospitals anymore and reading the posts that mention the different $ for BSN's had me wondering.

This is a great thread and gives me an idea of what to expect whenever I do finally get to the point of looking for a job.

Specializes in Pediatrics, General Med/Surg.

$32.70/hour for BSN.

Northern Westchester has a "dirty little secret" that most people on the outside are not aware of. Nurse preceptors are in the business of ratting orientees out for every single thing they do. It is not a learning experience. It is toxic and dysfunctional, especially for new grads. They only keep half of the people they hire. And it's never the real new graduates. It's the people who came after having had 6-8 mos experience somewhere else. I got to stay, but it is a backstabbing jail sentence. I hate it and so does everybody else.

The three people in Nursing Education are horrendous.

new nurses hate it there and basically are all dying to get out after a few weeks on "active duty" on the floor.

That's really sad.

The whole place sucks. Patients think the nursing care is great, but us nurses themselves feel like there are cameras somewhere waiting for us to drop a pill or get a BP wrong so one of the nasty women from nurse education can come up to the floor with her clip board and cut you off.

I know! I'm so glad someone else feels that way about NWH. I worked there as a tech. Horrible. Everyone is in a clique. And if you don't belong they come after you and talk about you behind your back.

I'm not starting my nursing career off there.

I'm sorry you had to. Just put in the time and get out. :(.

That place is AWFUL. I can't imagine anyplace being worse. Senior Management works so hard to keep their "Planetree" status. Planetree my butt. They are so evil.

I was so greatful to get out of there. I got a bad review from my supervisor because one nurse on the floor (that she was friends with) decided she didn't like me and made up a whole bunch of stuff about me. I tried to talk to the supervisor about how it wasn't true, and I couldnt believe she didn't talk to me before putting it on paper (the nurse didn't talk to me either) and she said it wasn't meant to be a punishment, it was for learning. Sorry, no.

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.
