Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

I did not see any thread on AUGUST 2009 support group, so i decided to form a forum for us to share our view, plan and how to pass for the test first time. :welcome: and Join the excellent group!!

Good luck to everybody testing in AUGUST:urgycld::grpwlcm:

:hehe::[anb]:

from the most to least helpful... (for me)

1. saunders 4th ed q&a ( i highly recommend!!!!!!!!)

2. saunders 3rd comprehensive review book

3 prioritization, delegation/assignment by linda la charity

4. www.cdc.gov

5. learning ext. website (ncsbn)

i graduated may of 09 and took the boards july 17th 2009 and passed

i answered atleast 4000+ questions over a month and a half

i made lab values and precautions tables and read them every night before i go to bed

i paid attn on my weaknesses (be honest to yourself). while i was doing my daily 100 + questions, i noticed that was weak in certain systems such as neuro and resp. so, i took a 100 + daily questions and focused on these systems.

i read every single rationales even if i get the question right or wrong

if i encountered medical words or diseases that i've never heard of, i would make notes and opened my 2nd resource (saunders 3rd comp. book).

i purchased the ncsbn review course ( it did not help me that much ). i though i would be fine just the saunders books.

i did not like kaplan ( most of my classmates took the course. 1 person i know failed @ 75. many of them answered 265 and passed.) i thought kaplan's rationales were somewhat confusing, so i stopped after doing 50 questions.

after my nclex boards, i thought that the test resembled saunders (yeah saunders not kaplan).

-- i had tons of teaching (70%), meds ( from galactica pharmacy, lmao), priority, satas, infection controls. med/surg, maternity, peds.

when you deal with priority question, think which of the following will kill my pt. 1st. what will happen if i do not intervene stat.

when dealing with who would you see first type question. chronic illness "usually" stable, so you "may" eliminate this option.

apply nursing process, maslows, if applicable. i also noticed that abc do not apply all the time!!

doing 4000+ question over a month and half paid off. i thought i failed because most of my questions were "easy". many nurses here said that if the comp is giving you "easy' questions, it means you are about to fail? true? i do not know? again, i noticed that most of the questions were like suanders!

i let my classmate borrowed my saunders 4th ed q&a book. her comp shut after 80 + questions, and she passed!!

she told me that the book helped her so much. it gave her and me a broad knowledge.

btw, my comp kicked me out after doing 78 questions. i thought i failed. i tried the trick the day after the exam and the magical pop up appeared! it gave me hope, lmao. sunday am, i found out i passed!!!

nclex is just a test; it does not going to make you a bad or a good nurse!

good luck!!!!!!

Lady01]I took my NCLEX RN today at 8am.I had all 265. I had a bad feeling as I was driving home. I got home and did the Trick and it let me go to the credit card section which means I failed. I am so tired of studying and of having my head hurt from having an information overload. i really didnt want to have to take that test again. It is like your life is on hold until you get it behind you.

Am sorry you did not make it. Just wait until you see the official result. In the main time take a rest and plan a new strategy on how to pass it next time. I wish all the best in your next NCLEX TEST.:typing

I am so sorry, dont lose hope, and try again! I just passed on my second try, and so can you!!! You couldnt have said it any better, our life does get put on hold until we pass this crazy test.. but after that, it is upmost rewarding, and you surely will be able to feel that soon!!! Take a week off in between studying for you next exam, and then get on the roll! You can do this!! Good luck!

I finally did it. After three long years of study and preparation (blood, sweat, & tears) I took the dreaded NCLEX yesterday, August 18th. The ugly beast that was ever present in the recesses of my student mind. Has it the beast been vanquished?

Now I languish in my anxious desire to get pearsonvue to please release my results. Why must I suffer so? Release my results!!!

:redbeatheThanks for the encouragement, you are right; and I've been told "patience is a virtue." :saint:

I woke up early this morning, ran four miles around the park near my coop (Forest Park, Queens, NY). I've made my bowl of oatmeal (w/flax & banana), boiled an egg, and brewed the coffee. Waiting now for my significant other to join me for breakfast.

I just checked the pearsonvue website...guess what? STILL NO RESULTS!!!:banghead: But it is still early, at 11AM today it will have been 48 hours.

Your attitude is commendable. I am certain that you will do well. I was surprised, that despite how little sleep I had had the night before, I was able to calm myself, enter into my "zone", and before I knew it, it was all over. The screen went blue at 75 questions, in just over an hours time. Then comes the waiting, which despite how virtuous it is, I don't do it well.

I've taken the day off work. This way no matter what happens, I can make it a private moment :yeah:or :bluecry1:

Hey thats sounds good! I see your from the tristate me too! I think taking today off was a great idea. Enjoy your day and what ever happens which I believe you pass is in god's hands. I wish you all the best! Now I need to head to barnes and noble to review some stuff and finish up with questions.:wink2:

Hi guys! Just wanted to throw in my 2:twocents:, for what it is worth. All through school our instructors drilled into our heads that we need to prepare constantly for the NCLEX test. It was constantly on my mind and I bought about 4 books, notecards, and did lots of questions on disks. I just took my test on the 12th of August and boy was I nervous. But I felt good. I tried to do atleast 50 questions a day after graduation and some days I did more. I took my test and I def took my time. Had 75 questions and it took me about 1hr and 45min. To be honest I thought my nursing school test were harder. They def prepared me for the "big day" Any who the Pearsonvue trick worked for me and two days later I found out I passed. I just wanted to tell all those who are nervous about taking the test. Believe in yourself. If you studied hard in school and have put forth a little effort with test questions you will have all you need to pass. I also said a little prayer right before I started my test and I truly believe the power of prayer works. It worked for me all through school. I wish you all the best of luck!!!!!!!!

I passed!!! Queens NY now has one more nurse! Hurray, yippee!!!:yeah:

Christina-09RN, I agree with you. To my surprise and relief, the NCLEX was much easier than I had imagined it would be. By comparison, I would say that the difficulty level of our classroom exams was equal to or greater than, my NCLEX experience. Every subject that was in my test was covered in class, and the questions on the NCLEX were clearer and simpler than many questions we had on finals. I guess it really makes a difference how well the school you attend prepares you. Our little 100 year old Diploma school has a 95-97% NCLEX pass rate; which is why I chose the school. Of course, only 1/3 of our class graduated.

This was my preparation for NLCEX:

After graduating in June we were all required to take a review course at Rutgers University in Newark, NJ; it was excellent. We all took the HESI, NLN, & ERI tests for readiness (HESI score was 1046, NLN 94%, & ERI 80%). I also did 1500 questions with NCLEX 3500. Reading every explanation, & reviewing any subject needing clarification - using my classroom textbooks only.

Of course, the fear was instilled into us while we were in school to constantly review. Also, in school, our testing was cumulative and very intense. No doubt, this is why the NCLEX questions seemed surprisingly simple, and increased my fear after the test.

Also, I was nervous because someone said to me "the questions get harder, and if they seem easier, likely you are not doing well." This is bogus! Also someone said, "if they repeat the same topic over and over again, than it means you are giving the wrong answer." This is not true! I was asked 4 questions on the same exact disease process, I was so nervous and thought, "oh no, am I getting these wrong?" But I refused to let this dissuade me, and I kept answering them the same way; and guess what? I remembered the questions, got home and checked the answers. I had been answering them correctly, all four of them. If I had started to doubt myself, started changing my answers, I would have missed them. Sometimes people give well meaning advice, but if there is no official statements making those claims - beware!

This is my :twocents: worth. Thanks for the encouragement, BYE!

Congratulations to u both. Maybe u can help me by giving me ur :twocents::banghead: as i am desperately in need. I took my exam on the 12th of August and just got my result in the mail that i once again "FAILED". I feel as though i have exhausted every avenue there is as i am a repeat test taker over and over and over again and then some. I feel so diappointed with myself and feel like a bid failure. I have no idea where else to go from here. I know that without hesitation that i will bee taking it again most likely next month or the month after that. But ,my problem is that i need some extra advice from people that are not in my immediate reach as to what maybe i can try and do differently to get the outcome that i am so deperately longing for.

If anyone has any advice that they wanna share with me, please feel free to respond or PM me as that may be better as i am sure to see it that way without missing it.

Deperately in need.

Thanks and congrats to u all new nurses out there
