took nclex 14x still failed

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

I have done everything I can to pass this exam books, classes, time, quit working etc. but still no luck. i really feel hopeless now and very ashamed of myself as most of my junior friends have come to pass the exam their 1st and 2nd time. Really don't know what to do now

Sometimes truth is the most "therapeutic" communication can be. I'd rather be cruel in killing someone's dream than be a cheerleader and let someone that can't pass a MINIMUM competency exam become a nurse and kill my mother or kill YOUR child or other loved one.

Let's try not to be so mean! We don't really know why the OP is unable to pass the exam. Some people just don't have good test taking skills. Others can excel in taking CAT's. We don't know what the underlying issue is so let's not be so quick to judge. I would never ever tell someone to give up their dream. Ever! There are some people that can excel is test taking but are a have poor clinical performance. I will be a 'cheerleader' is someone's dream if it means the world to them.

So at what point to do you say "enough is enough"? Would you want a doctor that took years to pass his residency exams? I don't think that this "everyone is a winner" mentality serves any purpose. Not everything is possible.I don't matter how much it is your dream. I would have loved to be a dancer. But I'm a bad dancer. No amount of lessons and wishing and hoping can change that.

After 14 tries it's more than just nerves.

I promise I undestand where you're coming from but it's no way you can look at a nurse or doctor & know how many times they've taken boards & I've never known any of them to volunteer that information. Honestly I've never known anyone to ask a nurse or Dr. that. I'm just a more of a "never give up on your dreams type person" Some of the comments were just plain rude.

I don't get the mentality that leads people to believe that you are always going to get what you want in life. Some times it just isn't in the cards.

That's your right, just like everyone has a right to their opinion. It's a difference between advice, criticism & just plain out rudeness. Everyone keeps asking "would you want a nurse or doctor that has failed 14x, yet no-one has not once answered how they'd know how many times someone has tested because in all actuality no-one ever ask. I mean the OP did graduate from nursing school. My point was why pull up a 3 month old topic to simply be negative.

Wow @ this negative forum. Why hasn't this forum been closed?

RN2BeeSoon,

No I did not search this thread out. It was referenced in another thread so I read it. I stand by my comments. Fourteen times and still not passing the NCLEX? This may be the OP's "calling" but the real world is saying not so much. Perhaps it is things like this which make nursing suffer from a lack of respect?

I would love to be able to sing but I have no singing ability. I could take lessons all day and try out for American Idol. All that would happen is embarrassing myself. Failing the NCLEX 14 times is mortifying! Time to move on

.By all means stand by your comments because I'm doing the same. It was "referenced" yet you had to come make negative comment on a 3 monthold topic which I've yet to understand. Why not leave your comment in the forum it was referenced in? You went out of your way to make sure the OP say your negative comment. The OP hasn't been active since July.

You know what, I failed the 6th time, just found out today.,.. But I will not give up until I have my license, I finished my nursing school 2003 and was 8 months pregnant in germany, came to the USA, started preparing myself for nclex with zero English, with a dictionary aside of Kaplan books....everybody has different problems , mine was at the beginning the language, the more time passes by, you forget lots of things you learned at nursing school... Missing the practical part on site makes a lot of difference....only reading books is not going to help , but we try.... Even you my friend will pass the test , I think god has his planes for a all of us, our time is just not yet:)))) god bless you

To become a US Nurse, I would suggest you go Nursing School in the USA. It will refresh your knowledge, so much has changed in nursing in the last decade. Your prior nursing experience will help you do well in school.

OK, closing this as the thread has gone far enough.

Maybe 14 times is a lot of times to be taking an exam but I expect people to be less harsh on the OP and look at ways that may help.

There was no need to drag a thread that is a few months old to brag this all up again for the OP
