I Failed the NCLEX-RN and I need some advice

Hello everyone who reads this,

I took my nclex exam yesterday at 1330 it took me 215 questions and then I ran out of time. I understand it is a big deal any time anyone fails the NCLEX-RN but I honestly feel like I am taking it harder than most nurses do and here's why. I have a fiancé who I am marrying in 3 days, I have a job as a graduate nurse that I am going to lose, I am renting an apartment for my soon to be wife to move into with me when we are married on Saturday that i dont know how i am going to afford now, and I feel so disturbed about this situation. I used kaplan for test prep and finished the entire qbank with an average of 55%. I graduated in may and waited till yesterday to take the test but I studied every day I didn't work since I graduated. I need someone to give me the best advice they have on have to manage with this situation, and how I could better prepare than I did before (although I thought I was prepared).

I may be stepping on some toes, but sounds like a bad time for a wedding. The number one reason for divorce is financial struggles. Honestly...I think you need to put your all into passing your next NCLEX, and your fiance SHOULD understand. That's my advice. Because I don't know how you plan to nurture your new marriage if you're having to study yet again for NCLEX.

I studied for nclex while planning a wedding and got married right when I started a new job. There is never perfect timing in life for big changes. My advice: take a deep breath. It doesn't seem like it's a possibility right now, but just breathe and enjoy your wedding. After all the stress from the wedding dies down, and you guys get back from your honeymoon, use the information the board sends you about your weak areas to start prepping again. Don't wait too long to take it again- you don't want to keep building a mental block in your head. This should be the happiest time of your life, you'll pass it on the next go around. Your fiancé will understand.

There were two of us with less than 2 months of experience in our careers getting married, and he had a certification exam for his job he had to take and failed right before our wedding. It's impossible to fully devote yourself to studying if you're enjoying your wedding week. We got through it and live in a state that is very expensive to live in. If we can do it, you can to.

I would talk to your job and see if they have a tech position you could be placed in, that might help to ease the money situation, plus you'll still have your foot in the door for when you pass the next time. With the wedding, you should receive some cash in lieu of a gift, that should also be helpful.

Redo Kaplan. I studied about 2-3 hours a day, doing 25 questions at a time from the Qbank, and reviewing the rationales. Do 100 questions a day, and write down the rationales you didn't know even if you answered correctly. You may also want to look into the Hurst review. This is a 300.00 course that offers a basic review of all material and has notes you fill in as you watch the videos. I found filling in the note portion to be the most helpful.

There is a new NCLEX prep called uworld. I heard about it on these forums, and checked it out after taking my NCLEX. I would've gone with this based on the extensive rationales provided for each question. This might be another option for you, and here's the link: https://www.uworld.com/

I failed nclex few months back. Even we brought house thinking that I would pass and help my husband financially, I had little one aswell. But it didnt happen as we planned. I had biggest support from my hubby, and thats how it should be, we are supposed to support each other through thicks and thins. There are always ups and downs in our personal lives. There were distractors behind my failure. You will pass, enjoy the special moment in your life. After that take studying as full time job. I know its really hard as I have been through it. Pray and calm down, god must have planned something very special for you. Anyways congrats and best wishes for your wedding :)

OP, you said you took the exam yesterday.....how do you know with certainty that you failed? Evidence of passing can be found on BoN websites as early as one day later, but if you failed.....how do you know so quickly? It's even too early for Quick Results.

I agree.

No one gets their results instantly; if you participate in quick results, you still won't know until at least until today; and even if you failed, you have been given good advice to take a tech position if you failed; your employer may have a good impression on you and will hold a nursing position upon your passing.

At this time, enjoy your wedding...life happens and the NCLEX will be there after your ceremony...then come back and let us know what you need help in.
