Hurst and then Kaplan

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hello friends,

I have a quetion or advise to ask,

I failed my NCLEX on the first try and now are getting back in track of studying on weak areas and what not.

I noticed that i needed some content and also strategy, so i decided to do Hurst first all lectures to refresh and then Kaplan for question strategy to prepare to retake.

Can someone tell me if they have used the same strategy and if they have, has this worked for you ?

I just reviewed the Electrolyte and Fluids and Orthopedics because i am terrible in those, and i felt like i had forgotten so much ferom school already.

Anyway, after the review i felt like i understood so much more.

Thank you

Deimys

deimysd, you are doing great. Those are good solid scores for Kaplan, and do not be surprised if Q-Trainers 6 and 7 you are a little lower; they are all above the passing line questions and looooong, so take lots of concentration. I just passed last week and was scored around where you are, a little lower. Got 85 questions and passed. Don't forget the sample tests, and don't be discouraged by #4, just keep on taking it over again until you get them all right!

Maybe you nurses can help me!!!! I bought the hurst review and already did all the lectures including the maternity and peds. I also have the strategy book from kaplan, but I really want to do the qtrainers from kaplan. I went on their web page to buy their online qbank but it doesnt say it comes with the qtrainers, so now I don't know what to do, I don't want to buy the whole online review since I already have hurst, I only want questions and qtrainers, but do you know if the qbank comes with these qtrainers you are talking about? I started a new thread, asking the very same thing lol I also have a pda book but don't want to do too many materials. Right now my priority is hurst, and kaplan questions.

Carrotcake:

the question trainers do come with the qbank, i highly recommend them, i love them and the more i answer the more confident i feel that i will pass the nclex the second round.

Let me know

deimysd.vigil Thank you for your response! Did you purchase just the qbank or you bought the whole course? Somebody here told me that if I buy just the online qbank that it doesn't come with the trainers but if I buy the online course or classroom course then that qbank does come with the qtrainers, and now I'm confused:unsure:. Maybe you have the whole course and that qbank does have the qtrainers?

My school provided it before we graduated , but the whole course was purchased, so i do have access to all qtrainers and qbanks.

I am also a repeat test taker and decided to do the kaplan q trainers after reading up on content. I recently scored a 75 on Qtrainer 4, hopefully thats a good sign right?

Im also curious if the q trainers are similar to the NCLEX exam? people say that they help, but exactly how do they help? i just dont wanna do questions and memorize the answers, since that doesnt work for NCLEX...any advice?

well i did do kaplan the first time i took the nclex, i dont think it helped me at first becausr i was lacking in content. this time i did hurst for content and helped me understand rationale why different disease process have differnt sx, and so on, then kaplan i have been using for the kind of question. it is true that while you should not memorize the answers, you should though read the rationals because you learn from them about things that perhaps will come up on nclex and they will. I have alot of endocrine questions and it killed me because that is my weakest subject along with SATA off course.

So in my opinion, i do believe that the qtrainers do help, mainly to get you used to taking long tests and also to the way NCLEx questions are laid out, i do remember that the nclex looks just like Kaplan, the same blue arrows, and what not,

I take mine next wednesday, feeling very nervous now, so i will keep taking the rest of the qtrainers, i only have 6-7 to take and then review, and some SATA from Saunders, so far i got a on qtrainer 5 i do hope to get a higher grade on qtrainer 6 and 7.

Anyway, i hope you do great on NCLWEX

[COLOR=#003366]deimysd.vigil good luck let us know how you do!!

I took Q Banks 50 questions got 54% in physiological I took another QBanks 75 question got 64% I am reading rational and writing the wrong answer to go over it again... I didn't do my Q trainer or readiness test yet! I agree I had so many antibiodics question on NCLEX I felt they were different... I had heath maintenance which was my weakness too!!

Stay postitive! do SATA more than one time and review each answer.. I am getting SATA on Kaplan right because I take my time.. before I was rushed and I just pick answer now I think about WHY?

Thats great!!!! I got a 60.7% on Qtrainer 5 not what i was looking for but ill take it.

I am currently on my last break from qtrainer 6. it is long so i have taken breaks at every 50 questions because i plan to do it that way in NCLEX. so i far i pray everday and during the test when i feel anxious and feeling like i just want to be done because honestly these tests are so long,

another thing, i have been running out of time on each test, but i am fine with that because we all have 6 hours to complete the test which means we can literally take 6 hours for 75 questions and can still have the chance to pass and i plan to take my sweet time :)

I will come back tonight and will post how i did on qtrainer 6. I am crossing my fingers. Last 50 questions, here i go :)

So i just finished my qtrainer 6 with a 66.5%. I know the kaplan lady was saying that we should be able to pass if we get above 60%, i understand, but what i dont like is that in every question trainer i have had lows in different categories, for example in qtrainer 5 my low categories were not the same as qtrainer 6 . Now my low cat are: physiological adap, psych and pharm,....GRRRR i only have 1 week left.

deimysd.vigil 66% that's amazing! Your doing great job. you can go look over physiological adap, psych and pharm question and see why you get them wrong.. as long you understand and you know why you should be good!! keep it up. Today I am going to listen to endocrine & cardiac Hurst videos then I will do a 75 physiological questions.. I am a fast test taker but I always remind myself to slow down.. you can take your time.. but you may also get 265 questions and pass so do not just think about 75 questions!! As I heard from before some computers already want give you the full 265! Good luck and stay positive & pray!

I am debating whether I should just buy the hirst book or the online review.any recommendations?
